Treat it like any puppy. If you plan on feeding dry food let it soak in water first. This will moisten the kibble and help the pup chew it. Potty training is done like any other dog, but doxies are intelligent and can be box trained (mine is). You will need to be careful about the dog jumping on and off the furniture (back issues).
I have 2 doxies myself and used to breed them. They are a really loyal little dog.... and tons of fun.
Get a book out or ask you vet for more info!
Good Luck!

You can get help from several sites, there are books at the library and mostly they need clean water daily, lost of pats and affection, patience when they pee on the floor and training that will teach them to go outside.
They need food that is good for puppies and some non-latex toys to tug at and teethe on. Their teeth are growing so they need this and they also need to be discouraged from chewing on furniture and peoples shoes etc.
Don't buy toys that look like shoes, clothing or anything they might confuse. Rather get balls and sqeeky toys. Remove any toys that are broken or torn. Remove any plastic small pieces like eyes in stuffies that can be swallowed
Get a harness and license for the dog and a good retractible leash and take him for a walk at least once a day for 15 minutes.
Play with him often and reward him with dog treats when he does the right thing, such as sitting, coming, staying when you tell him too. Never hit the dog when he makes a mistake. Just tell him NO firmly and put him in his bed.
He should have a bed he can curl up and sleep on. Usually its a basket with a big pillow in it. The basket should be big enough to hold him when he is grown.
He will need bathes but right now you need to wait a couple of months. There are lots of sites including the American Kennel Association that will give breed info.
A vet check up is important and the vet can give him his shots. He will need more shots now. As well annual updates. The vet can also give you tons of info on how to care for hom.
Good luck and enjoy the pup. In time he will truly be your best friend.

What a lovely little gift ! The main thing it will need is food , water, lots of love and patience and housebreaking. Buy urself a booklet on that breed and read it cover to cover. Take it to the vet for a health exam and it`s first shots. Then start the housebreaking procedure. Take him/her outside every 2 hrs whether it goes or not and especially after feeding. If u see it circling and sniffing on the floor, pick it up and take it outside, take him to the same spot where he can smell his own scent, to do his business and reward with a treat. When he does go, praise ur dog profusely, dogs love to please their owner. Be consistent and by the time he`s 3 months old, he`ll have a general idea that he is supposed to potty outside. Puppies love to chew due to teething, so provide toys like hard rubber balls and bones for it to chew on
As he gets older give soft, sturdy toys without parts that he can swallow. Be patient, expect occasional accidents until it is older. Shower with love and kindness and u will be rewarded with a true loyal pet. Next will be teaching how to walk on leash, ur book should cover that aspect of training, or seek the help of obedience classes. Good luck and happy times ahead.

First of all go to a pet store and get some puppy chow for the puppy. Find out what shots the puppy has had and if it has been wormed. If it has not had any shots or been wormed, take the puppy to the vet and get this done. Get a kennel to keep the dog in and fix it a bed with a sock or something of yours so the puppy will have something to comfort him when you aren't around. The pup will probably want to sleep a lot so let the pup sleep when he wants to. After he eats, take him outside for a little bit so he will get used to doing his business outside. Praise him and pet him when he does his business outside. Spend time holding him and talking to him. You might also check with your friend to find out if the puppy has papers so you can register him with the AKC. The pet shop will have books on training and housebreaking your pet. A lot of their books are breed specific.
