Unfortunately, many Westerners views of Arabs have sprung from their associations with terrorism. Many people do not realize that Indonesia is actually the nation with the highest Muslim population, and that North Africa has many Muslims as well.
Some typical depictions of Arab culture in the United States: bellydancing, burkhas (Arabian women are always depicted in veils, even though many countries do not require them), harems, Muslim, and utlra conservatism.
Most Westerners are unaware of the rich culture and history of the Arab people, because schools focus on European history.
