I live in a community where every person around me has a non-secured wireless network hooked up to broadband internet, like myself (except mine is secured).

Is it ok for me to steal their broadband and leave my isp? I don't really care about the legality, more so the moral implications?

Also, anyone else steal their broadband as their only net access?

Most people, atleast where i live have NO IDEA how to block their internet, so as im crusin the neighborhood with my friends were always picking up on random access points.

it WONT effect their internet, as long as you dont use any type of torrents. if not just use it away. They will never know and they should really learn to block it.

Now if you use torrents, you should still use it. But that also might force them to block it...when their internet gets slow, they call the provider. When the provider says they use alot of internet, but they KNOW that they dont...

you get the picture. But use away....hell its free.

In my eyes. if its unsecure. then its public. just dont kill it with huge downloads like bittorrent or emule. u can set the speeds of downloads with free software available on the great free world wide web. most peeps dont even use a tenth of thier bandwidth.
I have a router set up for public wifi. just because the internet was meant to be free.

i don't do this, but if i were in your place, i'd use someone else's connection. if it is unsecure, then it's not stealing. basically you are useing free space. but if you already have a good secure connection, why get rid of it when you can have all the bandwith to your self.

Moral implications? I think you have to question your own morals not ask other people what theirs are. Whenever the words 'stealing' and 'morals' come up in the same question i give the same answer. Think of your karma, what goes around comes around.

As long as you don't use their internet to comit fraud I think it is fine. You are not hurting anyone. I know my neighbor did it for years. The only reason I don't steal my internet is because my roommate pays for it and I pay a flat rent.

Nope, I have my own.
Eventually people get wise to using security, your borrowed connection might disappear.
Tricky question, I don't think I'd do it, but then if I was broke who knows.

it wastes their bandwidth. believe me, i know. my wireless used to not be secured, and i found my internet was really slow; later on i found my neighbors using my connection. it's really frustrating... i say, stick with yours, but if it ever breaks down, at least you have a sort of lifeline.

If you get caught there are legal ramifications. I personally think it is wrong to do. It is stealing, plain and simple. I hope that anyone that does this gets caught and I have no sympathy for what happens to them when they get caught.

By using some of their bandwidth, you would be limiting the bandwidth they are paying for. No, it is not ethical.

Yea, me and my husband do it everyday! We're doing it now! I don't see nothing wrong with it. It's your neighbors fault for choosing not to secure their connection!
