I think it is bad because it causes problems for animals. It's not natural for animals to be neutered. I mean I wouldn't want to be spayed without my consent just because the human population is getting to big. I think that Elizabeth may have a point about the reason why it is done. I know that there are not more animals in shelters than their are people in the world. So why else would they do it and since they kill the unwanted animals anyway why would they need to neuter them. I do realize that people don't always treat animals right, but does that mean that they all have to be neutered. If it's so important than why don't they make it free, why do vets make you pay a lot of money to do it. Why don't shelters let people choose if they are the one's buying the animals? Why are breeders allowed to neuter animals before they sell them? I think if these questions were answered it would answer this question.

The spay / neuter question comes up occasionally and my answer would be up to the pet owner to decide. Un-altered females (dogs) "drip" when in season and males will mark territory (in the house or outside). Then there is the issue with offspring. Cruelty to have your pet "fixed", no, but giving away the offspring to just anybody can be.
Elizabeth, YES you can obtain un-neutered Ferrets. Marshall Ferret Farms sells neutered / descented animals... there is a reason for this practice.. it is called the pet trade.. if you ever had a Ferret or any other Weasel (Skunk family, called Mustelidae) that was not descented, you would know why.

Hmmm no...the cruel thing it to watch a dog in a cage at the shelter waiting for a home... and the worst it to watch puppies and kitten grow up in a shelter..because someone wouldn't fix their pets so they figure oh well the shelter will find a good home for all my unwanted babies....and ya know they don't all get homes....its a heart breaker to watch a 'baby' get put down...or even adults...they are not enough homes now and if more ppl would just fix their animals fewer would have to suffer the cruelty of living in a very small cage!
Edit
elizabeth what a line of crap.
yes u can get an unneutered ferret.
Shelters barely get by on what they get in.
vets take a pay cut if paid at all on fixing animals through shelters and clinics.
Ofcourse good breeders give money to shelters and i don't believe it for the reason u listed...they want to better thier breed and not see so many of maybe their own dogs die each year but a good breeder want any dogs that they sold to be returned so they don't face death row....because of inorant ppl who think its ok of a dog to have 2 litters a year...
Oh vote for urself huh?
oh and some people shouldn't have kids either..

No i do no longer think of we would desire to constantly spay or neuter each animal! the single's that finally end up interior the humane society, sure probally so! yet to declare that each and each animal to be spay or neutered is taking our rights away as animal proprietors! puppy shops----it incredibly is such an important concern you suggested! I agree finished heartedly! it is so merciless, to maintain an animal in a cage day in and trip, for weeks and months at a time. Why has this been allowed, only breaks my coronary heart, to be certain cats and dogs in cages like that! until eventually I have been given in this website i did no longer comprehend what a byb became (back backyard breeder) for every physique new that would not comprehend what that stands for. at first, i assumed, by ability of the sound of it, it became somebody , who had a homey style place for animals. Then I study, and found out, it became all adverse in direction of breeders, that have been irresponible, people who had extremely no interest interior the welfare of the animal and greater passionate on the subject of the money! How unhappy is that! that is not any longer in basic terms irresponsible breeders, like the pup mill type, yet additionally irresponsible dogs proprietors, that permit their dogs run around get pregnent, and have litters and then supply them to the animal shelter, because of the fact they do no longer prefer to problem finding good residences for them. because of the fact of this they're attempting to bypass the regulation on neuter and spaying each animal. possibly a technique to regulate a number of this may be you're able to desire to be a registered breeder, like with the AKC, or a number of registered breeding company, and then possibly might remedy a huge area of the subject. i might prefer to declare the way you approched your question, and infomation you provided will enlighten a number of the lack of know-how obtainable, thank you!

I understand your concern, but pets that are not spayed or neutered have a higher risk of cancer, and a female after three heats can sometime have the uterus "detach" or sag, and it comes outside the body. It requires surgery and money.
It also causes mental issues for both sexes. Males tend to run off more, (hit by car) or mark... even in your house!
So which is cruel? Reasearch it more if your uncomfortable, but do all you can to keep your loved one out of danger.

You might want to educate yourself then. If you knew anything at all about the pros of spaying/neutering and the horrible cons of leaving pets intact, you wouldn’t be of the same opinion.
Or hey, maybe you would. There are people who are so pig-headed about the matter that they wouldn’t change their minds even if they had to watch their own pet die from preventable ovarian cancer.

No, of course not. Allowing animals to breed when you cant provide a home for all of the offspring is cruel. Male dogs who havent been nuetered and arent used to breed can get testicular cancer. My dog is the result of a pair of crossbreed dogs mating, the people who originally had her got her for free, they didnt value her.... they kicked her nearly to death and quite literally threw her over a fence to die in a ditch by the side of the road. She is now a valued and much loved and spayed pet, as are both of my cats.

It's not cruel because it prevents them from attracting other animals that may have dieases so it keeps them healthy for longer. They get similar anasthesia to humans and pain pills for afterwards and they heal much faster than we do. An unspayed female can be jumped by numerous males and THAT'S cuelty!

you are being cruel to all of your pets offspring if you do not keep them and provide them with medical care for the rest of their lives. otherwise they will end up in a bad home, a shelter, be a stray with no love or care or get put to sleep. unless you have homes for them in which the person will keep them for their whole life and treat them as a member of the family. for animals, breeding is a drive they cannot control and they have no form of birth control, unlike we humans who can control ourselves or use birth control. but then i also think women who have more than one abortion or even one without it being to save her life, should have to get fixed by law. having children is a privelidge (sorry my spell check is gone for some reason) not a right, in my opinion anyway.

actually the term is "spayed" and no it's not animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is when owners dont get them fixed and they are allowed to breed and have unwanted litters that are either abandoned, drowned, or turned over to shelters where the majority of them will be destroyed (killed).
