Like Star Wars movies, or lets take tonight's movie as an example, TMNT.

I've never understood the whole TwelveOhOne (12:01) thing, and now I finally want an answer.

What is so freaking significant about 12 oh _ONE_? 12 oh oh (12:00) is just as much March 23rd as is 12:01. Does this mean society is full of people who do not know how time works???

They could even have the start time as 11:55pm march22nd, since there are usually 15 minutes of commercials.. I'm sure that'd make it easier for morons.

To the second answer:
If you are referring to my 11:55pm solution on the day before the release date, keep in mind there are ALWAYS previews, so no matter what the movie would not start until the release date.
But I'm not referring to 12:01 12:02 i'm talking about when they only have one showing and they show it at 12:01 instead of 12:00. I'm convinced it's because people are morons

There would be legal ramifications for starting the showing before the legal release date. Also, in the event that a theater has multiple screens showing the same movie - like with Ep. 1/2/3 of Star Wars, they print the tickets for each theater as 12:01, 12:02, 12:03 and so on to make it easier for the ticket-takers to determine which theater they belong in. They generally start those movies at the same time anyways.

Foil left out one thing, 12:00 is neither am, or pm. If you live in a city, (like mine) that has meters, or street sweepiing the sign always says 12:01 am, or 12:01 pm so there is no confusion about when.

You are correct that people are morons. They show it at 12:01am, because if they said it started at 12:00am, some morons would show up at noon.
