It has a feature called torque lock and it caused the shift to stick in that position...the hill wasnt not steep at all...not enough to apply the parking brake so I didnt apply it.I called my warranty because it has low miles and they are going to fix it for free..it was said the the part that allows the car to shift is bad and needs to be replaced

The shifter could be stuck for a few reasons. The steering wheel could have been in an awkward position before you shut the car off. Try to put the key in the accessory position and move the steering wheel and the tilt around, try the shifter. If that doesnt work, do that WHILE moving the shifter around.
Another thing to try is to press down on the brake pedal really hard after you start the car, see if it will move then.
Good luck.

Believe it or not......the problem is not in your transmission, it's a little switch in your break system.
The car is designed not to shift out of park unless the brake pedal is being pressed.
If that's the case, it shouldn't cost more than $100.00 for your dealer to replace it.
Before you spend the money, pump the brake. The switch might just be stuck.

Sounds like the linkage is either binding or broken between the shifter and the transmission.

Shouldn't happen on a car that new though. Are you parked on a really steep hill?

DO NOT BUY A CHALLENGER! They are the biggest turds to roll of an assembly line since the old dodges. If you must have a muscle car, get the mustang or camaro, but that challenger is a waste. I really Hope I got through to you, because I can't express enough how lousy dodges are.

GM did have a problem with some of their shifter knobs. The locking unit on this knob was defective & would cause the same thing. Just a matter of replacing the knob & retaining clip which holds it in place.
