Why would Edwards want to divorce his wife of over 30 years? It's obvious that they love one another and have an inseparable relationship. The rest of the world should be so lucky. Newt asked for a divorce from his wife while she was in her hospital bed and just recovering from cancer surgery. His issuance of anything dealing with family value issues has been totally ruined. Edwards is a good and decent man, and he and his wife love each other. Thank goodness.

No. John Edwards will not divorce his wife. He should stick by her. Look at Gingrich his political career has suffered. Edwards will get the GOP vote if he stays buy his wife. If he is elected and she dies while he is in office he will be reelected.

John and Elizabeth Edwards have been together for 30 years and during that time had four children and stuck together during the death of their son. I hardly think he would leave her now. Newt Gingrich is a shallow and selfish little man. I don't think Edwards is anything like him.

I don't think that you'll find many people who thought that Newt was a "good" man.
Divorcing his wife would leave a bad taste in the mouths of the majority of women voters. Not a block of voters that you want to piss off.

Unfortunately, you don't have to look far for poor examples of human behavior. We all have our failings it's just that some people's is more public than others because of their profession. I don't excuse Mr. Gingrich for what he has done, I just think it isn't terribly reflective of the rest of his life or work regardless of what political party he is affiliated with.
As for Mr. Edwards -- he should remain supportive of his wife.

I just knew that all of these comments would start!!! How can anyone even think this is a publicity stunt. He is on the campaign trail; he needs to explain why his wife is all of a sudden not by his side. How would we react to see her in the next month bald!!!! Would people think she shaved her head as a way to get votes!!!!!!!!!!

No, he should stand by her solidly. Hopefully he has much more character than Newt Gingrich.

Nothing would be further from the truth. He should divorce himself from his pipe dreams of being the president of the USA!

The poor woman has a double whammy : she's ill , and married to a self-centered hypocrite . Edwards urges America to cut back on energy while he builds a 28,000 sq.ft. home on a 102 acre estate . While he lives a lavish lifestyle , he has the gall to say " Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those suffering & our focus on our own selfish needs ". Yet , Edwards also ignores his own wife's suffering and continues to run for office even though he couldn't get the vote in his own state during the last election .
