Actually, there IS a difference in brands mostly due to the additives they add to the gas. The gas may come from the same pipeline but the additives that are added later will be different. Basically, the better the additive package, the better it will clean your engine. Check it out at the following Car & Driver article.

Also, there is a new "Top Tier" gas standard with certifications that were agreed upon by the major automobile manufacturers. If all gas brands were the same, why aren't the cheaper brands on the Top Tier list? Top Tier is not a marketing ploy but a standard agreed upon by a consortium of auto (not gas) manufacturers. You can read about it in the following link and the certified brands are listed under the "Retailers" tab on the top of the page (also linked below). You can't go wrong with a brand listed there.

Don't forget to always use the correct octane as specified by your car manufacturer for the model that you drive regardless of the gas brand you choose. Using a lower octane than that recommended/required by your manufacturer increases the chance of engine "knock", which may damage your engine.

This question is asked at least once a day. The answer is there is NO difference in brands of gasoline. I drove a gas tanker for a time, and it all comes out of the same storage tanks. I would be in line with trucks from Union 76, Arco, Shell, Chevron, etc. It all comes out of the same storage tanks. Different brands use different dyes and additives, but even the additives are all basically the same.
The real difference is in which brands advertising does a better job of convincing their customers that their brand is better,(and some people actually believe it). When ever you need gas buy it from who ever is the cheapest at the time, and your car will run just fine.

That's like asking which object is better--the red one or the blue? lol
Past research (approximately 20 years ago in the great state of TX) has proven Shell Oil to be the 'best' brand and Texaco was found to be the least desirable. These days, who knows? I don't think it is so much as the 'brand', but the octane grade, i.e., regular, unleaded or premium. Depending upon what kind of vehicle you are driving, e.g., old-than-dirt, ordinary-every-day or sports car, respectively.

All gasoline isn't the comparable. I found out this the complicated way. Stations like Shell, Exxon, etc. have ingredients and cleaners that the extra low priced places like AM/PM, 7-11 . . . have not got. this is why they are extra low priced. I had a vehicle get completely tousled by using using low priced gasoline. the three mechanics I took it to for restoration-it estimates all instructed me they see extra problems with vehicles using low priced gasoline. So in the long-term you spend extra for maintenance than you will by using having extra appropriate gasoline. (I have been given rid of the vehicle, it wasn't properly well worth the $2000.00 to restoration)

Gas brands? Im going to tell you the truth, my cousin works for Shell, he told me that the same semi truck that dumps his station with gas, drives right across the street to AM PM and drops another load from THE SAME TRAILER...so to answer your question, they are all the same, just some are higher octane

Nor Cal.
Believe or not, different cars like different brands.
I had a 1985 Celica that ran best on Union 76.
My Chevy truck works best on Chevron.
And lawn mower likes Shell.
Try all three and see what you car likes the most.
Arco Sux.....
