I am curious to find out when People talk about Natural Birth, how much they fear it, but, in fact, it is not something they know.

I gave birth to my son completely naturally. It's not as bad as everyone says it's going to be. I did have great support though. My fiance was wonderful, stayed with me the whole time, and I also had a friend who was studying to be a doula and I was one of her "practice" patients. I labored at home for as long as possible and went to the hospital and found out I was 5 centimeters. I stalled at 7 centimeters for 4 hours because I wasn't drinking enough fluids... but when I started to everything sped up again. And I went to 10 centimeters in less than an hour, pushed my son out in 20 minutes and was up and walking around 30 minutes later. I felt great.

I was terrified before labor because everyone tells you their horror stories and I didn't know what to expect. I was worried that the pain would be sharp and unbearable, but it wasn't.

A great book that really helped me was "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way" by Susan McCutcheon-Rosegg. I read it when I was in early labor the day before I had my son. It took a lot of the fear away.

I have had two natural births. Although, the first I did have an episiotomy ( I have not heard of that being unnatural). The second birth was with not even a superficial tear...got to love those Keagal's . The third, however, wow what a difference. It honestly was harder for me than the first two. With this one, my water broke with no contractions to follow. My mid-wife was afraid that infection was going to set in...so they started the Pitocin (horrible)....immeasurable pain. Then I received a patchy epidural (did not take full effect) Honestly, I was still in pain..only now I felt hot, ridiculously itchy.....if I had to do it over again ...I would insist that no Pitocin or epidural be used. It caused my labor experience to be so much more difficult!!!
To each her own----natural or otherwise--I would never tell another woman what she SHOULD do, But I would highly recommend against all the drugs......especially for myself.

My mother-in-law had both of her children naturally and I have a friend that had both of her children naturally. I tried to have my daughter naturally but after being induced a month early, due to blood pressure problems, I failed to dialate and had to have a c-section.

If you considering having natural child birth, I would recommend taking the classes AND a doula. A doula is a birth coach. They are absolutely wonderful, she will no all the tricks to help reduce pain during contractions and will make sure that you are well informed of all your medical choices. She will even be helpful if you do decide to have pain killers such as an epidural. Your OB or your delivering hospital should be able to help you locate a doula if you decide to use one.

Good Luck!

I had a natural birth--I had a vacuum extraction but it was still a natural birth. I had no drugs at all, and I was not cut--I actually tore. I feared it, but had no choice since the baby came very quickly and there was no time for any of that. Yes, it hurt horribly but I got through it and will do it again!!

My friend had her baby in a holistic birthing center where they use no types of anestetics at all and it was amazing I mean there are a few things to worry about but they can all be determined with an ultrasound and other tests prior to due date and delivery

I did! No drugs, no IV, just good old-fashioned contractions...and pain. This was 8 weeks ago too. It can be done, if in the right hospital and with the right doctor (or in my case, midwife). You don't think you can make it at the time, but if you keep your wits about you, it will go quicker then you realize.
