Hi! I've had a salon for years and there is an easy solution. Splitting nails indicate a bad diet, not enough vitamins, a genetic problem or climate. To make a hard nail you need oil. Nails are dead cells and they have no oils to make them pliable instead of brittle. Anything to harden them will make them more brittle and breakable. "Solar oil" is great-- Olive oil works and other nail oils. Rub into the nail and cuticle every night and once during the day. The new nail treatments with calcium work well also. Clear nail polish isn't the answer. After you apply the oil try using a nail buffer made of soft leather or fiber and buff the nail at night and that will increase circulation. It will take a while for your nail to get better as it grows. You don't have to be gay to care about your health and body. I think you are being smart. Good luck!

You could try taking a vitamin supplement, B-vitamins and calcium are supposed to be good for nails. There are a lot of products out there for this problem, try looking in the cosmetic areas. I like Walmart, they have a WIDE variety of products. Sally Hansen carries quite a few that seem to be nail polish, but might just be an oil or lotion with strengthening agents. Most retail stores carry this brand.
But, your best bet would be to increase your vitamin intake. If you really aren't gay, than I wouldn't worry about it so much if I were you. I know my attention is focused on things besides my man's manicure( or lack thereof)

Nails like this are genetically inherited, so there's not a whole lot you can do to make your nails harder. But you can help strengthen you nails...so, take a multi-vitamin every day, keep your nails trimmed and if you file them, file in one direction only (sawing the file back and forth weakens your nails and encourages them to split). And here's the kicker, get a professional manicure (yes, REAL guys do this! Not just ladies and gay guys) once a month. The manicure is worth it for the hand massage alone...oh so nice! :)

This may sound funny but Jello. The gelatin in it is Great for building strong nails. Also calcium, by drinking milk or taking calcium supplements. My nails will start to break when I have been forgetting to take my calcium.
Hope this helps =)

Try upping your calcium intake. Calcium strenthens the body's bones and finger nails. I was blessed with having lovely long fingernails. although they do take up a lot of nail polish!
