What's it like living in the Lincoln Park neighborhood?

Can you live within walking distance of a grocery store there (like Jewel Osco)? Are there too many arrogant super-high-income people living there now or are there some college students and young professionals there too?

Just about anywhere in LP is within walking distance of anything you could want.
This is a generally a pretty young neighborhood, full of recent college grads. DePaul University is also in LP. The social scene you would probably be in would probably keep you mostly out of touch with those who own the million dollar homes and keep you in touch with people who are splitting a $1500 / month apartment.
Based on your profile, you might also want to check into Bucktown. It is a little more arty and off-beat than LP. The only downside to Bucktown is that it is not so close to the park and the lake shore. For that, you cannot beat Lincoln Park.

Lincoln Park is pricey. It's packed cheek-to-jowl with apartments, condos, etc. Not a lot of big houses with big front yards. Every available space that can hold an apartment is used. There are "arrogant super high income people" there, young professionals and students, although most of the students who have apartments are no doubt sharing them with two or three roommates, or have parents with deep pockets. There are lots of bars, lots of restaurants, lots of boutique clothing store and a few small theater companies. It's very bustling neighborhood; in the summertime the streets are crowded almost all night long with people hitting the bars and restaurants. If you prefer a quiet, unassumaing neighborhood, look elsewhere. There is a Dominicks grocery story on Fulleron and Sheffield, right near the Fullerton el station.

I don't personally live in Lincoln Park but know a few people who do. I know that some of the larger residential towers have their own grocery stores in them, particularly the closer to downtown you are. The place is so popular that yes you pretty much have to have a high income to live in most of alincoln Park, especially as you get closer to the lake. Parking is a nightmare and will cost you just about anywhere in the area. More professionals than college students due to the demand.

My partner lives in a high rise condo -- to be more of a masochist he is on his condo board. There is where the arrogance comes out -- people thinking the world is owed to them because they pay condo dues. Stupid ones in every bunch and at every income level, though money does tend to bring more of them out of the woodwork, and there is plenty of money in LP.

yes, there are stores near to buy food for eating. still plenty of people without silver-knobbed canes. Things tend to be more expensive I guess because the traffic bears it and perhaps operating costs are higher for businesses. And alot of the sidewalks are too skinny for the traffic. I walk faster than average, always getting clogged up when I am over there.

omg linkin park area is the best!! i stayed there last summer w/ my aunt! LVOE IT!
