Child labor in China? Why isn't anyone talking about how all the stuff we buy from China is made? And who makes it?How many people are aware that China is a Communist Nation who forces children to work in sweat shops making cheap products which are dumped on our shores? How many Journalists have reported the horrible abuse and conditions these children have to endure while working for free in Chinese sweat shops?Isn't anyone aware of it or is it just convenient to not bring it up because it's ok as long as it isn't happening here? How can I make this an issue for people to discuss so maybe they'll know when they buy something that's made in China who most likely made it?Haven't any of you ever wondered why everything made there is so cheap and falls apart easily? It's because of the free labor being done by children. Those poor kids.......

there was a PBS special about this in terms of how walmart gets so many good s from China and the terrible wrking conditions for those people incuding child labor The when they go to "inspect" to make sure there is no child labor they quickly send the younger lookin ones away so they can "pass" the pseudo-inspection. Its not about "we're doing them a favor to give them work". it's about exploitation.
It was an eye opening program.
Of course China is not the only country involved but they are a major supplier of cheap goods.
You may want to research also "fair trade" to see more about this subject

I have been working in China for almost 3 years now. I also live here currently. I have about 8 different factories that produce products for my company. NONE of my factories have workers under the age of 18. The workers at the factories work around 9 hour days with an hour lunch included (lunch is paid for by factory). Also, majority of the factories PROVIDE HOUSING for the workers. While the factories do not pay the workers a lot of money, it is still plenty to get by, and they make up for it by providing housing and food. Out of all the factories I've visited and worked in in China (over 30), I have never seen one child worker in a factory or "sweatshop". I'm pretty sure that's illegal here.

While the conditions aren't perfect and may not fit American standards, they are not that bad and provide better oppurtunities for some of these people that have grown up poor and in small farming villages. Have you ever been to China and seen this specifically??? Or are you generalizing China in with some other third world asian countries that allow child labor???

Listen, you have to understand something here: NOT EVERYONE LIVES LIKE PEOPLE IN AMERICA!!!

Not everyone around the world has the same living standards... maybe 1 house, 1 car, high school education sounds pretty bad here in the US, but people elsewhere dont even have enough FOOD.

When your family is dying and starving... what do you do??? Demand for a $9 minimum wage?? f*ck no... you get your *** up before the sun comes up and go to WORK. That's the only reason...

If you are asking this question, then you do not understand the economy... the "invisible hand"... if you owned a business, would you hire the hardworking person who asks for 1 dollar, or another person for 8 dollars??

Right now, you'd be like "oh psh... i always do the right thing... i'll pay him 8 instead of 1"... but NO... no one is that nice.

it's the survival of the fittest... americans are NOT as hardworking as those child in china who have to support their family... americans ask for too much pay for easy work, because you already have a living standard set out for you.

sweat shops aren't nice... but they dont kill. maybe they arent that safe either, but they provide families with enough to LIVE.

If YOU stop buying chinese products, those children will dye. If You stop paying $2 for something, then you will have to pay 100 times more.

DO NOT talk about something you know NOTHING about. Americans are the greatest hypocrits i have EVER seen...
the US doesnt do the slightest to help... only help when there's benefit...

1. let's not care about the jews being killed over there... let's remain neutral... we have nothing to gain... OH NO, japan just bombed us... we got hurt... let's go help and fight and be the hero...
2. who the hell cares about the Iraqis... but you know... their oil is GREAT... let's find an excuse so we can bomb them.... by the same... some civilians might die... but we dont really care...
3. oh no... something happening in darfur?? but they dont have oil... or anything... so let's just stay out of it... huh?
4. chinese people dont get freedom... yet they are thriving... yet they are the tech experts... yet they are successful... let's condemn their gov... by the way, maybe we can step on their econ a little too... who gives a d*nm about the people?

does that answer your question?? the poor children need work, and businesses want the best workers for the least pay.

you, as an american, should be the last person on complain.

Its not just China. Theres Nike, Adidas, and other sweatshops all through India, Mexico, Burma, Thailand, Venezuela, Colombia, etc etc.

And its not just children either. In South America its often poor young women who work 16 + hours a day for a few cents an hour. They can be fired for just about anything because the bosses know that theres hundreds of other poor young women just waiting for an opportunity to make a few cents an hour.

Its sickening.

Not just China But all of South Eastern Asia.More hands in the ?factories? more production.Children work for less money that does not get reported, thus making higher profits for the owners.
There have been attempts to stop this but the owners use labels that are not affiliated with their companies.
