Have you tried Eoin Colfer, "Artemis Fowl" It's a bit computer sci-fi but it is young adult fiction and very popular at my school where I work.
Or you could try Jennie Nimmo "Charlie Bones" stories. He has similar issues as harry such as relatives who want to keep him in the dark but that's where the similarities end!
Have you tried reading any of the Red Wall series? that's youth fiction, but many adults are avid fans & There's probably 10 or 13 of the series by now.
Or there's always the very popular Lion, Witch and Wardrobe. Of course the actual first book is called the magician's nephew. which helps to explain the reason for certain things that happen in the wardrobe.
If you don't necessarily care about youth fiction and you don't mind a very involved story that jumps thru time you could try The Eyre Affair=as in The classic novel Jane Eyre (? sorry I cannot remember the author but type in the name in Amazon books and I am positive the computer can tell you.) There are some future events that happen and someone has to go into the story to keep it all from happening. Apparently it is a series of stories but the one I read was amazing.
Duane is the last name of another author and the title of the book I saw was a trilogy in one volume called "support your local wizard". That was pretty cool, more than one person is involved in that adventure too.

try Tamara Pierce she has several books out
the lioness song quartet
the immortals quartet
the Protector on the small quartet
the Magic circle quartet
the circle open quartet
I just read Eragon and loved it
Anne Mccaferty's the dragon riders of Pern
Dennis Mckirenan he writes stories like the lord of the rings but WAY easier to read that Tolkien so if you like that but didn't want to wade thru Tolkien he would be a good choice with
the silver call duo and darkest day trilogy
he also has sever other that are better than lord of the rings type
The Voyage of the Fox Rider
The Eye of the Hunter
Silver Wolf Black Falcon
there are so many i can name but i don't want to overwhelm you with book titles and authors
good luck and i hope you find some more great books to go play in.

if you really like harry potter i would suggest reading the Charlie Bone series by Jenny Nimmo. I don't want to give away the plot but the series is about a boy who's dad is supposedly dead and he lives with his mother. He finds out that he has magical powers or a gift. People like this are called the "endowed". the boy finds out that his dad also had a gift. Anyways. the boy(charlie) is sent to an arts school where all the endowed children like himself also go. But there is a story behind the endowed children and some of them are "evil" while the others are "good". It's like good battles evil. I really like the series because it reminds me of harry potter but with a cool twist.

The theme of a boy growing up to discover he is far from ordinary is, of course, hardly new.
(Star Wars!) Involve magic, and a couple of titles spring to mind:
David Eddings: Pawn of Prophecy,
(which leads to a series of books.)
Raymond Feist: Magican.
(and then other books with shared characters)
But both of these are different in tone to Harry Potter. I prefer them.
And definitely try Terry Pratchett.
I would suggest Guards Guards, or Wyrd Sisters (The latter has witches, most decidedly!)
There is an order to his 25+ Discworld novels , but that can be picked up later, if addiction occurs.

You might like Chronicles of Narnia (seven stories in all), or Eragon (two books out so far, with a third on the way). You could also try Shadowdale, and if you like that, there are three others to the series. On a lighter side of things there is Terry Pratchett with his Disc World series. I hope you enjoy.

From my own adventure: sure, examine them! examine them! i'm a Christian, and that i admire the Harry Potter thoughts. J.ok. Rowling isn't the only novelist to apply fantasy magic to tell a worth tale; C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien additionally did. quite a few scholars have studied the Harry Potter thoughts and found Christian subject concerns interior and in the time of. i might project you to envision Deathly Hallows and not see the Christ determine interior! sure, there are Biblical warnings against witchcraft. whether, Daniel replaced into seen a sorcerer; he replaced into observed as that because of the fact that is how his acquaintances understood his power. One Harry Potter student, John Granger, has argued that the witchcraft forbidden interior the Bible is "invocation"--it fairly is, calling upon evil spirits to do your bidding. He says the Bible does not forbid "incantation"--it fairly is, tapping into the flexibility of nature, "God's track of nature" and shaping it. it would be reminiscent of what Jesus mentioned approximately having sufficient faith to flow mountains. additionally, in case you prevented all thoughts that have magic, you shouldn't examine or see fairy thoughts or The Wizard of oz..or Mary Poppins or Lord of the rings or the Narnia thoughts or possibly even famous individual Wars or famous individual Trek. i might additionally argue that the magic interior the Potter thoughts is fantasy magic and maximum probable not how magic might artwork interior the real international, IMO. The Harry Potter thoughts have plenty to declare approximately love, friendship, training and growth, sacrifice, justice, and selecting what's "solid" as against choosing what's "straightforward". i visit point you to three web content and books that talk the Christian messages and pictures interior the Harry Potter thoughts. happy analyzing!
