you should never use weed killer, that is a very bad chemical.the rain or irrigation washes it into the ground ,and eventually it ends up in the subteranean waters, that some one else may be pumping to drink from.
Sometimes there just is not an easy or lazy way out of doing something correctly and the uggly truth about weeding is that you best do it by hand,i have always done it that way
you use a pointed stick or an icepick or a small garden fork or mulch
MULCH
what you do is to cover the ground with mulch which is the same principal as compost but it includes the whole garden surface
the top part of the soil where the topsoil is being produced houses a world or microbiotic life.
Mulch is organic material green or dry that covers the ground, the thicker the better the composting process will turn it in to black topsoil
the humidity is preserved underneath and promotes the devellopment of worms(their exists no better compost than their excrements)and a variety of micro biotic life which together with the mulch produce more topsoil.
the mulch also keeps the ground temperature even and guards against the impact of the rain ,which would other wise brings salt to the surfave if on unprotected land
Mulch also prevents the soil from drying out because of the sun and, lay it open to wind erosian.

I did exactly that. But prior to replanting, thoroughly weed, especially perennial weeds. Added new soil, replanted and then added tons of mulch, in some areas I put down landscape fabric then mulch around the plants (roses got this treatment), at least 3 inches.
It was a lot of work, but worth it in the end.
Now I always get the weeds out by hand as soon as I see them, then add mulch every year. Some weeds grow on top of the mulch, but its so easy to get them out.
Its worked beautifully for me for the last 5 years.
I don't use the cheap red bark mulch. Its by a company called Nature's Gold. Looks like a nice deep rich dark soil.

You can make up a small amount of any systemic grass killer and paint the solution onto the grasses with a small paintbrush, carefully avoiding your chosen plants.

Either pull it out manually or poison it with "Roundup" I prefer to pull it out, don't like poison sprays, also put salt on them or hot water but be careful of the plants

Use a product called "ROUNDUP". Be VERY CAREFUL with it, it is a poison. Store it locked up where children or teens can't come into contact with it!!!
