A child generally inherits their parents' traits. For instance I had 20/20 vision until it began to deteriorate when I was 13. Now i see about 75/20. Guess what, both of my parents wear glasses and that is my mother's exact vision disability. So the child may not end up as "blind" as the parent(s), but it's fair to say its vision will be somewhat effected by its parentage.

You guys probably should have discussed this before considering children. Depending on why he has bad eyesight, it might. If it developed in later years, your baby will be fine when it is born but may develop the same problems he has. I inherited my mother's congenital cataracts. She's legally blind, ergo, so am I. Since it was passed on to me, i think it is likely that I will in turn pass it on. Therefore I have decided to forego childbearing.
All is not lost, though. I know completely blind people with sighted children. You really need to talk about his history with your husband so that you know what to expect. If it happens that your child is born with visual difficulties, I highly advise talking to the National Federation of the Blind. They can help you to understand your options and will provide a support system for you. They'll also help you make sure that your child gets the best care and education- don't think that just because someone has bad eyes means they won't accomplish anything in life.

it all depends on the reason behind why your husband has bad eye sight.
If it is short-sightedness or long-sightedness, it is passed in 85% of the time.
If it is astigmatism, it is passed on in 50% of the cases.
Obviously, there are also environmental effects: poor lighting when reading, too much book reading or computer working...
The human eye was developped to work in wide places (in the wild). Nowadays, our vision is restricted to close proximity objects or actions. So, our eyes take a hit.
Short-sightedness can be corrected easliy with glasses and contacts. Even laser surgery if you really cannot stand to have glasses. There are great ultra thin and light glasses!
If it is due to untreated Glaucoma, then since glaucoma's run in families, there is a chance the child will develop glaucoma sometime in its life.
If your husband has bad eyesight due to meningitis when he was young, then the baby wont be affected at all.

It shouldn't make your baby blind but it depends on why your husband's eyesight is soo bad. If he has an eye condition he could have given it to your baby or not. If he just has bad eyesight for no reason or because of an accident or something, then your baby should be alright.

No it wont make your baby blind but you should ask your doctor about that if it would affect the baby. It also depends on how bad the eyesight is.

No it will not when its born. it is possible for it to enherit the father's bad eyesight so watch for signs at later ages. Changes such as that usually happen at later ages. I didnt need glasses until about the age of 8.
