wheat penny? I just tried one and I've got to say it must have been stale since it didn't taste like any wheat I had ever eaten before. Anyone know when those things went bad?

Next time look a little closer. The expiration date is printed on every one.

No, they are all still good and very spendable. May I debunk a myth that wheat pennies are rare and valuable? They are not rare and they aren't valuable. I know of a guy who has a box containing six cubic feet of them. Don't seem too rare to me. They would be more valuable earning interest in a savings account.

They usually go bad the year after it was minted. I would never put a penny that old in my mouth eww, just think of where it could have been. Some kid could have swallowed it years back, pooped it out and you just tried to eat that thing,(shuddering) eww gross

Never ate one.
But, they are high in copper.

The last year they were made was 1958. (If it had been a twinkie, it would've tasted great.)

Did you try dipping it in milk?
