I'm gay and I say "that's gay" all the time. I don't get offended when other people say it. It's just a figure of speech.

Is it wrong for me to say "that movie was gay," for example?

I dont give a damn. I'm not gay. But I have gay friends, and one of them constantly refers to himself as a f.a.g. (Which I just now learned is a word thats starred out by Yahoos censoring nonsense)

Its not about the words, its about the intent behind them. The feelings, etc.

Its the hate that some people have when they say things like f.a.g that bothers me, not the word itself. I really have better things to do with my time than be offended by every other insignificant word.

I get offended by it. But i know people who are gay who say it. I choose not to because I feel it's giving a negative connotation to a word that should not be negative at all. But I had a friend who said it all the time (she was straight) and she always said it in a really agressive context. I suppose it's a matter of opinion.

You know, I just had this conversation with my lesbian friend who also uses that figure of speech often. I told her that I don't understand if she means that's good or bad. She thought that was funny. I was like, if a straight person says it, I know what it means but when you say it, it confuses the crap outta me. I say it's just a figure of speech. It's not wrong.

I'm not gay and that figure of speech bothers me. I guess it's not wrong for you personally since you don't find it offensive, but in my opinion it's not the best way to describe negative things.

Yes, it's wrong when it's offencive to an entire group of people who identify as "gay."

That's like saying "that movie was jew" or "that movie was spik"

Just because it's a "figure of speech" doesn't make it right or not offencive.

It's offensive. It implies negativity is synonymous with homosexuality. The N word is a "figure of speech" too, you know the implications of that word and why it is opposed, why would your slur be any different.

It sounds ignorant. How about saying "that movie was straight" ... sounds stupid, right?
