The story of Aladin comes from "Tales From The Arabian Nights" His legend along with several other folk tales are found in that book. They are really fantastic stories and if you get a chance to buy or borrow the book do it, it's really worth the read. Unfortunatly Disney got almost nothing right, but when have they ever got a fairytale up on screen properly.

It's from the Tales of the 1001 Arabian nights. A beautiful girl named Shaharizad told her husband part of a story, each night, in order to save her own life. The story of Aladdin is one of the stories she told. So, it's Arabic.

The origins of Aladdin is very likely Arabic. Haran al- Rashid was an Arabic ruler from 786-809. Haran al-Rashid is the hero in many of the stories in the tales of the Arabian Nights.Haran al-Rashid's palace in Baghdad became famous for its riches, jewels, food, wine, women, poetry and song. Haran al-Rashid's fabulous wealth and his many wives passed into legend in the stories of The Arabian Nights.
