its a CD rom drive that can also burn CDs for you. the W means that it will burn on Rewritable disks, which means you can erase them and burn new information. Regular CD-R cannot be changed once you burn something on them. Most laptops these days have a DVD/CD-RW drive. You can check by looking at the drive.

See the features of the laptop to find out if it says - cd rw.
It writes, and reads CD.
In other words, you can write stuffs , record songs, save data on a CD by using this CD-RW drive.

That is just a drive that can write to CD-R or CD-RW discs (CD-Recordable and CD-ReWritable). Pretty much any laptop within the last 5-7 years should have one, yes.

it is a cd drive where you can burn cd's, not dvd's.

a cd-rw drive is a cd burner that will allow you to burn a cd, and pretty much erase it and use that cd again.
not all computers had cd-rw drives, it will say on the actual drive itself if it is cd-rw.
you need to buy special cd-rw cd's to re-write them.

that is a cd-burner.
if your lap top has a cd tray, look at the outside. it will say R (read), or RW (read/write).
