Dear all,

I recently heard that a lesbian couple got thrown out of an IHOP for kissing in public, down in Grandview, MO. I have to say this makes me angry, I am not very much aware of the struggle of gays. But it is an injustice, and it is not right.

How shall we ever approach the Courts with prosecuting such injustices, as the blacks did when injustices were committed unto them? That old spiritual of "We shall overcome" still applies in this day and age, even amongst the gay communities throughout the nation.

As far as I was aware it was just simple kissing, not making out and caressing. I can understand some of your reactions if it was making out and caressing.

you realize what state they were from! Missiouri or misery is what I like to call it. a weird bible beating state with really nothing to do there. my sister lives there and its pretty lame in my standards. I would sue the IHOP for that bullshiit!
take it to judge judy! she is awesome!

HERES THE STORY ON THAT!

Homettes Hopped from IHOP
Not "Family" Enough For Renowned Shitthouse

The discrimination train just keeps chuggin' along, making a not-so-jolly stop in Grandview, Missouri, where two lesbians were getting a little cozy at a local International House of Pancakes. It seems customers at this lovely establishment didn't find the lesbian loving so stimulating and complained to staffers. According to Richard Rothstein over at QueerSighted, the manager then approached the women and said:

It's just that we've had complaints, and it's unacceptable. And as a family restaurant, we don't accept that, and (we) don't accept you. I'm going to have to ask you to leave, and not return.
Yeah, the House is totally family friendly. That's why they refer to it as I-HOP, rather than I-H-O-P (get it?).

Rothstein goes on to remind us all that there are no laws against such discrimination - establishments, even those as fine and upstanding at IHOP, can legally "evict" patrons, regardless of whether or not they're just as American as anyone else. The homo-journo also encourages readers to write in to IHOP to say "howdy". Our words, however, will be a little less jovial.

AND THEN A COMMENT FROM IHOP THEMSELVES
Patrick Lenow says:
IHOP understands the concerns expressed here and hope s you will allow for further clarification of what happened at this franchised location.

This is not an issue of discrimination, IHOP is welcoming to all. This is one reason we have been successful for nearly 50 years. The guests were asked to refrain from bold displays of public affection as guests had found it offensive. They were not asked to leave, they were asked to refrain from bold displays which included open-mouthed kissing and caressing. They elected to leave the restaurant about 20 minutes after the request to refrain was made.

A heterosexual couple exhibiting the same behavior would be asked to stop the displays of affection. We have had extensive conversations with the Manager on duty and the franchise owner of the restaurant. These guests have visited many times in the past and are welcome to continue to visit IHOP.

It simply would not be good business, and it would be wrong, to ask someone to leave based on their sexual orientation. We are welcoming to all and this is one reason for our success.

Why the heck would anyone be kissing in IHOP. They should have been kicked out gay or straight!!!!!!!! If the couple were straight, I believe that the outcome would be the same. So since they are gay, they should have the right to slob over one another while my family is trying to have pancakes. No, they should have been thrown out, and I applaud IHOP for not conforming to the ideals that because someone is gay that they have the right to do that!!

We shall overcome?? Are you serious? Do not dare compare a race of people that have fought for generations to someone that has sex with the same sex. What the heck????

people are affraid of the difference. they should get overthemselves. if people would get over the xx and xy, maybe they could move on and focus on something else. people are too stuck in tradition, too conservative- why can't they see that love is love? can't they see that people of the same sex can be happy together?

love shouldn't be defined by dif. sex couples, but of the amount of love- right?

we shall overcome- will never happen. not really, there are way too many opinions out there, and even if you got the nation to support, there will always be that one rotten person who thinks differently. as of now. i hope for the future, it will at least be a little more open.

too many opinions to change- one corrupt can influence others. personally, though, i believe that this action was totally an injustice and harms the idea of the chance to be equal!

"We shall overcome" isn't really a "spiritual, it's a protest song. It was taken from an old hymn that has since been lost to history, but the song you're refering to is actually a protest song....

and yes, it does indeed apply!

Yes, it is an injustice, but what do you really expect in the Bible-belt? Really?
It's not like Grandview, Missouri is the heart of forward thinking, higher education or culture. It's a po-dunk town in the middle of a po-dunk state.

I wouldn't hold my breath on them changing any laws down there, but I don't think any laws were actually broken. The IHOP manager has the right to refuse service to anyone he deems as causing a disturbence in his restaurant.
Since the couple wasn't charged with breaking any laws, they really don't have much to go on.

It is not illegal to throw someone out of your business, so no such prosecution is possible. Businesses reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

Now, if it had been a black couple, you can best believe that IHOP would be getting a ton of negative publicity, much as Cracker Barrel did for firing gay employees. Bring this to the attention of the National Gay Task Force and the word will get out. IHOP will be forced to respond to the negative publicity.

Hey I heard Leno talk about this.
I guess too many people were getting turned on or the manager was jealous.
That's all I have to say about that.

They were victims of HOMOPHOBIA. Imposed by Christians since back in the day.

Just a way to control our minds, like they did with my friend Tiffany above me...see? who the hell she is to say is wrong? and who are the catholicts to tell me what to do with my body? and why she says is against nature? she does not use her reasoning anymore.

Anyways, they were victims of discrimination.
