as a kid i remember my school teachers having a cocoon that made a butterfly in the class room and thinking it was so neat. I want to give one as a gift but dont know how to get one

Just wait a little bit longer until the weather gets warmer and you can just go outside and catch some caterpillars and feed it until it becomes a cocoon!!

Why you need to do that. Butterfly life is very short. Instate of take one to put in a box (frame it), just take a photo or better a video then you will know how free they fly. Life is short, don't kill it.
