In Lord of the Rings-Return of the King Frodo and Sam were saved by flying eagles... why the hell didn't the eagles just fly them to Mount Doom to destory the ring? That would have been eaiser then walking.

They weren't allowed to. The eagles were not to directly interfere, though through various favors to Gandalf were they able to save his friend in the end.

Their job was to keep an eye on Morgoth for the Valar and the Noldor who were banished from Valinor. They'd fought in battles with elves, men, and dwarves due to their strong dislike of goblins etc. in The Hobbit. So they couldn't just pick up the ring-bearer and fliy right over Mount Doom, because it have direct consequences on the fate of ME.

1. The eagles don't usually participate in the affairs of men. They had a special relationship with Gandalf and would come only for a short time when he had an emergency.
2. The Nazgul would have destroyed the eagles if they tried to come to the mountain before the ring was destroyed.
3. The eagles would have been clearly seen on their way to Mt. Doom. Sam and Frodo were much easier to hide from Sauron!
4. Sending the eagles to the mountain would be something that Sauron could anticipate. He couldn't imagine that two little hobbits would come alone into the heart of his kingdom.

the eagles are to save frodo and sam under gandalf's orders...or rather request(in the book).i think firstly the eagles has little to do with the ring and secondly,i agree that nazgul will destroy them, and sauron will see the eagles flying over mount doom.

A great many reasons. First of all there are the reasons stated by the previous answer-er. There is also the fact that the whole area was filled wit hundreds of thousands of orcs and other creatures. It states in the first book that sending a full army would have drawn more attention, much like a bunch of gigantic eagles would have done had they tried that.

Possibly because Sauron's unsleeping vision and the Nazghul guarded the skies about the mountain. Both were removed when the one ring was melted in the bowels of Orodruin.

well gee if it were so simple as to have the eagles fly them there, then there would be no epic struggle! and there wouldn't have been Three movies made out of it. it was for the stories sake that they walked

Hello, where would there have been a story then? PLus, if you know the book, the eagles wouldn't have taken them anywhere. They just wouldn't have done it!

Although a good question, the Nazgul would have come about as well and it could have failed.
