you have asked quite a question, and i must say that it would be difficult for me to imagine a world that has neither of the aspects you mentioned. after all, we seem to define the stages of progress of humanity with the various styles of of our time. it was the renaissance with its return to classical architecture, art and poetry that catapulted the nations of the western hemisphere into modernity. and throughout the centuries all peoples have sought shelter and safety in their traditions of music, poetry or art. these dimensions of the human identity have served to give us strenght, inspiration, and the determination to grow further.
it seems like since the beginings of humanity people have drawn on walls to record the events of their short lives, to cement their place in history. or they sang tunes to ground the present within the confines of the past.
in essence, art is our way of reinforcing our own identity, by placing ourselves smack in the middle of the human condition. we reveal our most voulnerable parts, and yet we feel safe in knowing that we have brought some normality into what otherwise feels like a very abnormal life.

In fact there was a time when the world was without art, literature, poetry and music. It was called the dark ages.

I am having a hard time even imagining this scenario. I don't think it's possible- because we'd still have nature- and that is the inspiration for so much of Art, Literature, Poetry and Music. However, forced to eliminate all these things, we would be either robots living in a stainless steel world or cavemen grunting through our days. I personally would be in the psych ward, likely, if I did not have these things in my world.
Nature itself is these 4 things- I don't think it's possible.

Re: an earlier poster: Actually, the Dark Ages had a lot of great art, poetry, literature, and music.
There would be no religion, no science, no philosophy, no math, no passion, no desire to question, discover, or search. There would be nothing but the instincts to procreate and defend oneself, one's young, and one's territory.Oh, and the instinct to eat, hydrate, urinate, and defecate. Maybe even the licking of wounds.
The same traits that allow us to imagine and create give us the ability to think and communicate. Without the arts the sciences would hold no interest, not even as a vague beginning of a vague concept.

It couldn't be any worse than it is now.
The majority do not read Literature or Poetry and their idea of Music is RAP from Big Boom Speakers.

If those didn't exist in the world, I guess it would mean not only that the world would be radically different , but that people itself would be different.

The world would be empty. People would die of heart disease. Or stress. Or any psychological-related fatal illness.
