As I do? I mean, the country had a ruthless dicator, but at least it was functional, and people could go about their business every day without fear of being blown up. We invaded Iraq with good intentions, to depose Sadamm and free the Iraqis, but basically it has been a blood bath over there ever since. Evil has free rein, and we have been unable to stop it. Our own people and Iraqis are being slaughtered on a daily basis. So I say good God, what have we done? Any other Americans feel this way?

McKenzie, what of the polls that show the majority of Iraqis believe they are worse off now than under Saddam? Even if we disagree, calling my question nonsense is sheer arrogance.

Yes you pretty much said it all. Some of the Republicans even want to impeach Bush. On a Netscape poll 60 percent felt that George W. Bush was the worse president in the history of the US. We have no business further destabilizing the Middle East.

Without wanting to sound like an idiot goin "i told you so"....I've been against the war from the beginning. So, no I dont feel personal guilt, except maybe that I didnt go to more protests (not that they would have changed anything)...
All anyone had to do was listen to Dick Clark (former counter-terrorism chief) who said specifically that Iraq would erupt into civil war if the US invaded. And the real kicker is, he also said that during the Gulf War, to Bush Sr. and Dick Cheney, who was also there at the time. Thats why Bush Sr. didnt go all the way to Baghdad. He wasnt crazy.
But now Halliburtons made several billions in profits this last year. Worked out nicely for them. Thats how Cheney and all those bastards think. They believe the entire world can "go f*ck themselves" (to quote the Vice President) as long as they get some kind of massive profit.
But yes, I agree, I'm incredibly ashamed of what the US government has done. When I think of all the lives weve destroyed, and all the ones we've stopped just short of destroying, it overwhelms me.

YES.......sometimes it takes a brute to hold things together. Remember Tito, Yugoslavia was a functioning country until his death then Chaos, murder, rape, genocide. ethnic tension was always there under the surface but Tito kept it there. then the county disintegrates into hell. Iraq is the same model, different but the same. Not that any of what we have heard about reasons for the invasion are true. You can't give democracy like a house plant at a house warming, it only grows in its own soil.

I don't take personal responsibility. I've protested against Bush and this war from day 1. He's damaged america and the middle east that will take generations to fix. He has accelerated america's downfall as a world power and destroyed a society.

Yes, terrible that we displaced the very people who are blowing up their own citizens, killing children and women wholesale, hiding behind citizens.
We should have left them in power where they could continue to murder their own people, torture them with authority, continue the rape rooms, and terrorize their people into silence and obedience.
A far better peace and functionality that what we are trying to do.
Give in to them. Let them take over again. The people will be so much happier and safer (those that survive the purges that would come).
How wonderful the peace your guilt would induce.
What nonsense.

We should feel guilty for electing a warmonger, first of all... and then more guilty for letting him lie to us all this time and not putting him in jail where he belongs.
There is enough guilt to do with Iraq to go around... but our real guilt should be for the lost lives of our soldiers who are doing their very best to try and find an unwinnable war.
