I am 21 weeks now. I did not know when a good time to do my registry would be? And when would be a good time to plan it? When did you have your shower? What are some good things to be sure to register for? Thanks!

You could go ahead and register if you like. It is best to have the shower a month or month and half before your due date. In case you go into labor earlier than expected. I had mine a month and a half before my due date. If you go to Babies-R-Us, they give you a list of everything you should register for. Otherwise, check websites for a baby registry check list. Or just go through the store and pick out the things you want. That's what we did. Good Luck!

I think at the end of your 7th month is the best. It isn't too early and it isn't too late. My baby shower was scheduled in my 8th month and I had my baby the day before. You can start your registry now. Look to get bath stuff, and some toys. Safety items are always a good idea and I would put a few big items on there (your mother or mother-in-law will like to help in big ways). Someone other than yourself should be planning your shower, your baby shower should be a relaxing fun event and if you are the hostess it can't be that for you. Congrats!

Your at a good time to start getting your baby shower done. Doing your registry is really fun, it helps if you know what you're having but if you don't you can always pick things that could be for either. And I would plan it for end of April beginning of May. If your lucky you'll get a nice day out. And when you register make sure you get a boppy, they work for everything.

Showers are generally given by friends and sometimes relatives of the mom to be, so unless someone has asked when you'd like it, you are kind of at their mercy. Most of the time people will throw showers during the last month or shortly after the baby is born. Even if no one offers to throw you a shower, it is okay to register somewhere because many people bring gifts to the hospital. Then if they ask what you need, you can always tactifully say, "Well, I'm registered at..."

It's usually best to register during the last trimester. The seventh or eighth months is early enough.

Don't register for tons of clothes, people like to pick out what they want to give you, there. Same for diapers. Do register for crib sheets, hooded towels, baby monitor, bassinet, stroller, high chair, baby swing, crib toys, bottles, safety kits, etc. I think it's a good idea to buy your own infant car seat to take with you to the hospital, but you could register for the next size up. Just try to include things in a wide variety of price ranges and have fun!

The shower should be about two months before the baby's due date. You can register at any time. I brought my husband with me when registering--it was interesting to see what he wanted and some of the things he asked for ended up being very nice! Plus, he felt more involved. #1 thing-- car seat. #2--diapers, wipes, and diaper bag. I got the stroller that had the car seat that fit inside it--a bunch of people got together and bought it for me, which lasted three children. Don't forget to ask for a bunch of onesies, PJs, baby bath stuff, baby meds (such as the anti-gas stuff, Orajel, baby Tylenol, etc.), high chair, bassinette, first aid kit, and of course--cute baby clothes. I also got a baby mobile and the baby monitor. Have fun!!

Dear Expectant,

I think the funnest time is when you are about 36 weeks. The girls get to measure your tummy and guess the size. Your friends can help you open your gifts when they won't fit on your lap. Every one can laugh and have fun, reminiscing about their tremendous baby tummies. Ladies have fun remembering, from commiserating with your slide ons because you can't tie your own shoes to fond remembrances of the butterfly wing first movements of your precious, precious bundle of unmitigated joy. Above all, have fun. Celebrate. Celebrate it all.
As you see items you like and ideas from others, keep a list. Start your register at 51/2 months. You can add as you go. I loved the terrycloth roll guard on my changing table and found I needed more than 1. Hhen one was in wash I needed immediate replacement. I put a shelf over my changing table and put colorful Mother Goose Rhymes and pictures on it for my son to look at while I was changing him. Everything I needed was close by. The small waterproof pads to go under his bottom while I changed him were invaluable. Diaper genie refills were a great item. Containers for cotton balls and incidentals, baby manicure set, baby first aid with thermometer, medicine dispenser and nasal syringe, etc was great. Wipe warmer makes a happier baby, too.. Squirt bottle for the alcohol for belly button was a great idea. Any containers that allow 1 hand dispensing is great when changing baby. Also loved having 2 small beds, 1 for each main room baby slept in. Had cradle in living room and bassinet in my bedroom. No moving sleep spots from room to room, just baby. Childproofing assortment was also invaluable. Don't just ask for newborn clothes. Babies grow oh so quickly. Don't forget Mom. A comfortable chair for rocking, snuggling, playing toesies, and reading stories is as important as a crib, especially if you are nursing.

Mine was planned for about 6 weeks before due date and I was in the hospital in labor on that day. I actually went into labor 8.5 weeks early. Luckily I had stuff from my first child, but I would say to have everything ready and set up before you get to the 6 week mark

My mom threw my shower about a month and a half before i was due. I heard many do that seems to be the norm. You dont want it too close to your due date just to be safe. Some people have it afterward especially if they want to wait to know what sex the baby is.
