I keep getting the "Windows Can't find (file name)..." even when I go straight to the program. They just won't open. I'd usually think it was just the program but its happening with a lot of my things that worked perfectly yesterday or the day before. I can't open anything to even SCAN my computer.

Ohhhh.. that sounds like a virus. You may have to take it to a shop to have it restored. If so, pick a reputable one or they'll rip you off and tell you your hard drive is fried.

one trick I have done, just to be able to properly scan, is to pull the hard drive out and plug it into another machine as a secondary drive (NOT C, but D, E, etc) which is not accessed by windows upon bootup.

Boot in safe mode, and run your virus scanner program from the second machine, to scan your possibly infected drive. This usually works very well
