I'm a 15 yr old guy.
How do I start? I can't convince parents that think wearing a wristband is a sinful act? One time they payed a detective to see if I wear eyeliner in school (when having a low income). Like another time i was wearing armwarmers and my mom was like crying, I swear (she took away my allowance forever so i won't buy "evil things"). I want to stay in my school in NYC & not have to go live like a hillbilly/amish. Are they psycho? Especially mom. If i try to speak with her nicely, she says that american schools try to make your son want to be different and inedependent and she acts like is a bad thing. I just wnat freedom of fashion. It hurts to see kids with normal parents. If anything goes wrong with me, instead of helping me, she'll blame it on me for listening to metal/punk/hardcore (a style of music that's somehow "evil") My mom is extremely stubborn & sick. Please help me, I'm suffocating. I love my school and the way I look. How do i make my parents NORMAL?

you can't change people unless they want to change. The good news about this whole thing is that it's going to make you stronger, once you come of the situation, you'll know better how to deal with extremely difficult people and you'll have a great level of emotional resillence. if it gets to be too much you really need to get out of the situation. You can contact child protective services and explain the situation them. you can try to get replaced into another family or become legally emancipated so they are no longer your legal gaurdians. im so sorry you're suffering and I wish you the best of luck.

You're in a though situation, but remember that even though your parents may be able to control what you wear, you are you no matter what. Getting into a fight with them will just make things worse, so try and talking to them calmly about their concerns, let them know that you're a good person and nothing is going to change that. You might also want to get them a copy of Voltaire's book "What is Goth?" which does a good job of explaining the subculture in a way that will not offend your parents. Good luck. And remember, you'll be out of there in three years, so sit tight.

You know in your heart that it is not evil. I still can't believe that we still have people in this world that think wearing black symbolizes evil. Just remember, in a few years, when you're an adult, and are finally free to roam in the real world, you're going to be able to dress how ever you like. What some parents don't realize, is that the more you shelter your kids, the more outrageous they're going to be when they finally leave home.

See this as an experience that will make you stronger as a person. Right now, you are in your parents' control and might not be able to express you as freely as you like. It sounds like your parents are pretty extreme. If they were a little less so, I might suggest simply dressing as you would like to when not under their watchful eye. However, if your mother cried at the sight of you in arm warmers, they might just follow through with the threat of pulling you out of your school. If you can, try to point out other people you know who are still good people but dress more like you would like to. If that doesn't work, I would suggest doing what you need to do to appease them in regards to the way you dress now, but always keep in mind who you are and how you would like to express that. Move out as soon as you can, and then dress the way you always wanted to. Your parents will won't like it, but they will no longer be able to do anything about it.
