Somehow I think that the candidates in 2004 and 2008 don't represent the very best that the US has to offer. Why is that?

I think that the "very best" of our population stay as far away from the political arena as possible.

I believe that it has come down to who can raise the most campaign contributions. Not who really has the best interest of the American people at heart. The candidates are going to say whatever they think will play to the voters.

Because we citizens don't demand the best and we don't let them know who we think is best. We need to stand up and be counted for what we believe in.

sadly, yes...

for most, the decision to run for president is purely ego driven, with no concern for the welfare of the country required.

it's like, they need to be reminded that getting us all killed will leave no one to applaud when they reach the podium.
