It is very safe. I am a European girl and I did travel alone to Egypt. I had no single problem there.

Did you know that, according to statistics, Cairo is one of the safest metropolis in the world? And I can tell you that she is really safe from my own experience. A woman can wander around alone with no problem at all, both day and night. Yes, many men will stare at her and some of them will try to talk to her, but nobody will try to hurt her in any way. She can ignore them if she likes or she can talk to them if she wants to. I did that and I met some interesting people that way, I even made some friends. And, let me repeat one more time, I had no single problem.

Just use your common sense and don't listen to people with prejudice. You will have a great time!

Yes it's very safe for a woman to travel to Egypt alone. Try to understand the Egyptian mentality and you can understand how you can walk alone very late at night while you feel safe. I didn't say you can do that anywhere inside Egypt, but at least in areas with live movement or not in very poor and random areas. This goes also for Egyptian females, so you better have many friends from Egypt specially females and you will understand many things.

I go to Egypt all the time and realy there is nothing scary or to worry about. I am blonde and very fair skinned so I always cover when I am there which is so nice. THere are Egyptian women who do not cover as they are Christians but no one bothers them.

It just depends on how you feel about dressing. Do not think you can dress in skimpy outfits and not be harrassed. NO one dresses like that there, it is a very modest country and if you visit you should do the same.

Cab drivers are so nice to me because they see that I do not attempt to be different and i try to fit in with the local people. THat gives much respect to everyone believe it or not.

GO and have fun, it is a great place to visit with the nicest people you will ever meet. Remember you probably have more rights in Egypt than Egyptians, and there are tourist police everywhere, if you are in trouble get one of them and it will be settled. But i do not forsee any problems for you if you just act and dress correctly!

I really had to think much how to answer ur question.

I would not recommend that you or any female come to Egypt by herself, but if u've to, then here's what u've to do

Egypt is safe as long as:

1- Don't trust any egyptian. Egyptians act very honest to gain some1's trust.
2- Don't believe every1 who's nice to you.
3- Always stay in places where foriegners/rich people are living because these are the most places protected by the police.
4- Get to know the foriegners living here becuz they've much experience about egypt.
5- Get away from poor/crowded areas.

An Egyptian will become a Hero for egyptians if he married u,so plz take care.

P.S I'm not interested in answering questions here, I just think it's my responsibility to give YOU the right image of Egypt.

I think the safest place in cairo for you would be Maadi..
if u need any help feel free to email me..

I really wish people would stop asking this question. What a distorted picture of Egypt everyone must have to believe that it would be unsafe to travel there. Is it "SAFE" anywhere? Is it safe for me to get in my car and drive 75 mph on the interstate? Is it safe for me to go to Walmart at 3 am? Is it safe to go camping in the wilderness with open food containers? From the minute we open our eyes in the morning life is nothing but a series of calculated risks. I wish people in this forum would stop scaring people away from Egypt. You may live in Egypt, but to say that "Egyptians will act honest to gain your trust" is just plain wrong. If you want to go that route, the same thing could be said for Mexicans, Russians, Scandanavians, Canadians. You make it seem as if Egyptians are vultures circling roadkill and scare the poor tourists. No wonder they keep asking this question. Egyptians are the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. Egypt is not without its problems, but it is a great and surprisingly efficient country. Everyone there is just trying to survive. Just like everyone else in the world. Maybe there are some over eager vendors on the streets and shops in Egypt who see dollar signs when they see tourists - but they are just trying to earn a living. Trying to support their families. Can you blame them really?

It is safe if someone travels the airlines into Egypt but once they reach the hotel they should not dress as many American do. It is a conservative country and one that thinks the women should not dress flamboyantly or in short clothes as many do in American. Old customs and traditions die hard and that makes it difficult for a woman to be treated on the same level as a man They are respected and engage in government and politics but there are rules of conduct attached.. When they leave the hotel it should be in the company of a man for they will be inundated with peddlers and children trying to get your money from This can prove to be quite intimidating and when they mob you it is hard to keep track of all your things. So you are an easier Target. Crowds gather quickly and you can easily be caught up into things at the bazzaars tpp

The advice is to have a body guard with you at all times and you should travel by private car that is arranged ahead of time. Then you will be safer from all of the above.

Even though I'm Egyptian, I can't say cuz I don't live there but I don't think you should worry.
And I also don't get why people keep wondering if it's safe for women in other countries.
What about america? I live here and I've had many unsafe encounters and I wear appropriate clothes.
What's with people lately? They need to stop being prejudice about everything and everyone.
Carry some pepper spray maybe (as you are to do anywear in any country at anytime) but there's no need to lose your mind over it.

I wouldn't go alone. Don't get me wrong - I love Egypt, it's one of the most amazing places I ever visited. The problem is, when Egyptians see a Western woman, they are sure she's promiscuous. I had my butt pinched once in the market, some other guy followed me on the street, others came up to me and said totally inappropriate things - and my only "crime" was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. It's not that they're evil or misogynistic, it's just that Moslem's live in a very restrictive society and have heard "all about Western women". In short, go to Egypt, it's really amazing, but yo u MUST have a male companion.

yes it is safe as not being raped or mugged,
but you will have to be ready for the men if they did what they do in any western country, it would be called harassment,
dress sensibly try not to show to much skin, alex cairo red sea resorts its ok, but out of them you are game to any remarks they care to make, not saying all the men are downright rude, but 90% are, come here with an open mind, a lot of ladies are put off by there behaviour because they do not get it in there own country. I live here, beware of the over freindly ones, as all they want is your money they are very clever at what they do, treat them like you would a door to door salesman he only knocks on your door to sell, and as a male I am appauled by their behaviour, I even get asked if I need a male if I go out on my own, so not only do you get it, but the male gets harassed here as well, learn the word, imshi yala.
its kind of saying go away, and la shukran meaning no thank you. its a lovely country to visit for the most the pople are very nice and friendly,
