Do the undue criticisms of others sink in, or just roll right off you??

As for me : It depends who is doing the criticising... Although, I tend to be overly emotional a lot of the time, so I do often take it to heart, but then I sit and think about it, and plot maniacal, ridiculous revenge on the person, which helps me laugh about it, and then I look rationally at the issue.... If it's worth a reaction, I react, as calmly as possible and with as much dignity as I can muster... If it's not worth it, I laugh it off.... But I make a mental note of it, and if it happens again, I take the person to task.........

So, how about you??

Explain your answer....

Thanks, for answering in advance! :-)

Listening is an art. It must be done with out preconceived notions. By doing so, the listener can also put himself in the shoes of the orator and view and analyze the oration. If the criticism is for good, salvage operations or rectification mode can be switched over to in no time. Else, it is good to respect the opinion as another aspect of looking at it which may not be ideal.

Well I have and am learning to not let peoples opinion bother me, although as a child I was thoroughly wounded emotionaly and suffered an inferiority complex. As a result I became overweight and that seemed to add to the problem. I never had release from it until I stopped trying to please people. I finally realized we cannot please everyone and today the only one I really what to please is God, and He makes all things right in my life when I want to please HIm.
You have a good additude about most of it except revenge, that will only get you into a similar situation like the person/people who criticize you. If we can laugh it off because it isn't true thats great, but on the other hand if it is true then there is such a thing as constructive criticism where someone may be trying to help us. However it is difficult at times not to get emotional over it all.
So what I endeavor to do is to think on positive things and things that uplift others and go on with my life.

.I came to the realization some time ago that it is so much easier to criticize that it is to create. In spite of all the setbacks that life throws at me, I am able to keep a pretty positive attitude. I just assume that when others say something to me,except for a very few people that I respect, that they will be judgmental and negative. I am rarely disappointed in their responses because I know what is going to come out of their mouths. I also limit my contact with these "energy vampires."
I hope you can find some solace in my response

I usually play off their situation. The reason for negativity most likely would be because of feelings they had that made them act that way. I try to figure out what is wrong without directly asking and portray a sensiable solution either through words or my actions.

Usually it rolls of me, if I'm in the right state of mind.

I know who I respect and who I don't.
I know when criticism is valid and when it is not. I am; in fact usually the first to recognize the glaring faults in myself.

But I know how to deflect criticism from those I don't respect.
Good question.

I feel that you answered the question better than I could have. Negativity is part of the human condition, it's all in attitude, how it impacts us. In that way, we "transcend" don't we?
