Think about California. The unique thing about California is that is has distinctly different terrains....the dessert in the southeast, a long spectacular coastline, the large San Joaquin Valley (where most of the agriculture is), and the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains.
When people think of California, they usually think first of movie stars and beaches, but there really is a lot more to California.
Northern California is less crowded and you can find lots of small town and rural areas. Southern California is warmer and more populated.
My favorite places in California:
1. Yosemite National Park (about 4 hours east of San Francisco) - The towering granite mountains and large waterfalls are truly awesome. Check out this site: http://www.nps.gov/yose/
2. California Wine Country - There are wine regions throughout the state. Many wineries have wine tasting rooms where you can sample their wines...often for free. Check out this site: http://www.cheers2wine.com

Definitely Hawaii. Never been there..
My favorite plave I have been though is South Carolina. I absolutely LOVE Charleston and the surrounding islands. I am even considering moving there someday. (wasnt too fond of myrtle beach though, way too crowded and not much to do)
