"A good leader is a person who takes a little more than his share of the blame and a little less than his share of the credit."

A good leader is one who would go first and show you how when necessary, who would stand with you side by side in a fight, one who would ensure that laws are enforced against everyone, not just a select few, one who can communicate with all ages, races, status, etc. A good leader excites his citizens to take action whether it is in agreement with the leader's position or not. A good leader will listen to all sides to a story or position and will take the best action -- one that nearly everyone agreed upon.

A good leader can lead an army to hell and back and have the soldiers actually look forward to the trip. A good leader commands loyalty from all his subjects whether they agree with all the leader's ideas or not. A good leader unifies and takes responsibility for his errors.

A good leader values his people and recognizes them for the assets they are. A good leader promotes law enforcement and doesn't worry about whether some lawbreaker is going to get upset when he's called on the carpet for it.

A good leader is one who can get others to agree with his point of view and who can evoke compromise from those who disagree.

A good leader recognizes that leadership is not a dictatorship but is actually a position that is, at times, being a member of the rank and file while someone more qualified is picking up the slack. A good leader recognizes that at times he will be require to lead, at other times he will be required to follow and still other times he'll be required to stay in the middle of the fray. A good leader is honest, has integrity, and morals and won't be worried about money. He'll be worried about people and getting the job done right.

A great leader makes a firm decision based on facts and executes the plan that will result in an outcome, whether the outcome is positive or negative. Every decision a leader makes is not taken as a flavor of the day matter where evryone gets imput.

A Leader has Integrity, conviction, Moral backbone, leads by example, has self confidence, is versed in his areas of expertise. Not afraid to make an unpopular decision, stands his ground.

Revised, my comment toward Chi Guy was pretty much undeserved, he has good points as well.

It's lonely in front, a leader must be self reliant and self-assured.

And, by essence, a leader takes calculated risks, unlike those behind following.
