I am trying to find out Cinderella's birthname. In almost all versions the plot revolves around a girl of a rich family deprived of her rightful station in the family and given the cruel nickname "Cinderella" by her wicked stepmother and two step-sisters. Most of the versions talk of her being given the nickname Cinderella because she was forced to sleep among the ashes in an empty fire place. I'm trying to find out if there are any versions that say what her name was beforehand. If you can site a book, movie version, or website I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm looking for her name in the first version where's she's called 'Cinderella' or any variation of 'Cinderella'. I would like to know what was her birthname before she was given the nickname.

I remember reading as a kid a version of Cinderella in which her given name was "Ella." The "cinder" part of the name was added by her stepsisters because of her habit of sleeping on the hearth. I'm not sure if it was Grimm's or Perrault, or just some other random variation.

Well I know in the Cinderella version 'Ever After', Cinderella's name is Danielle De Barbarac. I'm still looking for more, I'll edit and update as I find them.

I found this site to be interesting at least:

It depends on which of the many variations of the story you look to.

Examples: The ancient Greco-Egyptians, around the 1st century B.C., called her Rhodopis. From a 9th century Chinese variant of the Cinderella story 'Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang', she is called Ye Xian. The Brothers Grimm called her Aschenputtel.
