i own a repair shop and it may already have some head problems with it,those was real good for blowing head gaskets,i have had a few of those in the shop for this, and that was the main reason they over heated, also if the thermostat isn't working right on it this will cause it to do that too,you might be better off taking it in to get it checked out because there's something wrong that keeps making it over heat,i wouldn't spend no money on it until i knew for sure it was going to fix the problem, don't go buying parts without knowing for sure they will help it,that would be the best and cheapest recommendation i can offer you on this one, good luck with it i hope this helps.

Has anyone changed the thermostat in your Van? I would have it changed if not.
Have a shop Do a BLOCK TEST this is a test that checks for a blown headgaset
Unplugging the temp sensor tells the computer to automatically turn of the fans. The cooling fan relay may be faulty and another thing if the A/C system is not charged properly with R134A or R12 the system cannot work properly see the cooling fan circuit needs the A/C system to be charged to use the Pressure swithes in the A/C system to work togother with the cooling fan circuit due to in Gm if you put the Defrost on it automatically overrides the cooling fan relay and uses the A/C pressure switches to keep the cooling fans on as long as the selector is in Defrost or A/C.
Another thing the Vehicle Computer Can keep the Cooling Fans from working have it professionally tested take my word for it its way to High-Tech for you to mess with

Once I replaced the thermostat on my car as regular matence, and it turned out to be defective. It over heated a week later and It kept leaking at every weakest link. I replaced the radiator, and water pump in a parking lot and then towed it home. I didn't change the t-stat because I though it was fine because I just replaced it. Turned out it wasn't.

sounds like you might of blow a head gasket, possible water pump is bad. Radiator is perhaps clogged. Thermostat might be stuck.

Rule of thumb, replace the cheapest item first then work your way up the dollar scale, especially if your unsure. Thermostat cost is around 5 bucks with gasket. Water pump with labour perhaps $125.00. Radiator about the same. Head gasket $600.00.
