I want to get someone to improve, but I don't know how to do this without making them feel shame.

~Fix yourself first, toots. The problem is yours. If he or she is happy with that which bothers you, live with it or move on. Of course, if you insist on sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong, be prepared to have it broken or at least blooded good. You may end up hearing things about yourself that you don't want to, won't believe, won't be willing to correct, and won't accept as being "flaws" in the first place.

You can't change anyone but yourself! Maybe if you let the person know how what they are doing is making you feel and then give them examples of what you would like them to do instead, they might take some constructive criticism. I would suggest that before you start pointing out the flaws in others that you look closely at your own flaws and think about how you'd like to "fix" yourself.
