hmm another round of kobe bashing. lets give some stats here before i answer... FG attemps per game--Melo- 23.5 Kobe-21.4, A.I-21.2, Arenas-21.2, Allen-21.0, James-21. Yet unaimously kobe is voted the biggest ballhog? lets go further- FG%---MELO- 47.7 Kobe-46.5 A.I-43.9 Arenas-42.1 Allen-43.8 James-47.8. Hmmmm is kobe really that bad.... i have alway thought that A.I was bad. i saw A.I go 7 for 46 in a game agenst boston in '02 THAT my friends is ballhogging, oh he also only had 2 asst that game. But I would truely have to say that Arenas in the worst...FACTS are that (since the benchmark seems to be kobe i will compare the two in the seemingly ball hog catagories) FGA per game Kobe- 21.4 Arenas 21.2, almost even- FG% kobe46.5 arenas-42.1, big advange to kobe, asst per game kobe 5.6 arenas-6.0 almost even and TO's both tied at 3.4. Statisticly speaking arenas is the biggest ballhog, but then again Kobe is the most hated player in the game and that must count for something right? read the stats before you judge you kobe haters. If jordan scored 81 points in a games and had 4 assts and 4 TO's would you call him a ballhog? not a chance. Gotta love all you Kobe haters!

I feel honored to answer this question, especially after the great details that you gave. When A.I. went 7 for 46, that was a great display of ball hogging. Kobe Bryant however is not a ball hogg. As a matter fact, I would call him a superstar right along the lines of the other players that you mentioned. That being Habachi, Melo, the King, and Ray Ray. The first thing I would like to point out is I have never heard that Ray Allen is a ball hogg, yet Kobe only takes .4 more shots a game. Now I am not the best at math but a diffeence of .4 shots should not be the difference between ball hogg and great player. Kobe Bryant is the best player on the Lakers by far, so chances are he is going to get more shot than Brian Cook and Smush Parker. Lebron is going to get more shot than Larry Hughes, Melo and A.I get about the same shot but they both individually will get more shot than Reggie Evans. When the Lakers loose, it is because Kobe did not step up and win it, but when he steps up and wins it he is a ball hogg. So what if the man scored 64, 50, 60 points in the last three games. The Lakers have won. The lost 7 in a row before that. If he was hogging the ball I dont believe they would have won. They are winning again because the superstar has began to take over the game. there is a time to shoot the ball and there is a time to pass the ball. If you are Kobe Bryant, it is your responsiblity to shoot the damn ball if you are hot or have an open look. That is why he get paid what he gets paid. It is true that Kobe will sometimes shoot when he should have passed, but I think it is fair to say that every very good player in the NBA has done that before.

Kobe ruined his own reputation and if people have no respect for him it is his own fault. He could be the greatest in the game ever and he would still be a punk to me. Jordan WAS a ball hog the difference is when Jordan was involved in the gambling mess he took his medicine and he did not involve any other players although I am sure he could have. If you get caught doing something you should not be doing and while you are being questioned about it you involve other players in your mess you will never get respect again. If he thought he could convince the cops that a lot of players had sex with those women and that would make him look better he is stupid as well as a punk. The other players were not charged with rape he was so why did he bring them into it at all. If they have sex with other women that is between them and their wives and has nothing to do with Kobe raping a woman. But to answer your question Jordan was the biggest ball hog I have ever saw it just looked better on him than it does Kobe.

I can easily prove that Kobe is NOT a ballhog even without numbers.

After Sunday's game, the second in his recent outburst where he scored 50 (the 1st was the 65 point game), these were the comments from coach Phil Jackson:

"We talked about going to Kobe early in games and not waiting," coach Phil Jackson said. "He had been playing the team role, feeling the game out and waiting 'til the second half to get going. But there's just not enough time right now in the season to develop that."

There you have it folks. To summarize, the reason why Kobe is shooting so much is because HIS COACH TELLS HIM TO SHOOT, and because HIS ENTIRE TEAM PLANS FOR HIM TO SHOOT.

These morons running around talking about ballhog this and selfish that clearly have never played a MINUTE of organized basketball; either that, or they think the tall guy in the suit on the sidelines is a cardboard cut-out. It takes a real idio--scratch that, a real hater to suggest that Kobe does what ever he wants without his coach's consent, ESPECIALLY a no-nonsense, hard-nosed coach like Phil Jackson.

It's amazing to watch people suspend logic.

Thanky you for speaking my mind! You gave some good evidence and statistics comparing him to other so-called ball-hogs. You made a good point on Michael Jordan too, he wouldn't be called a ball-hog if he scored 81. And Gilbert Arenas, he doesn't have a conscience when he shoots, he just chucks the ball up there.

Kobe-haters just don't understand why Kobe scores as much as he does. Have you seen the Lakers? They need him to score in order to win. Luke Walton and Lamar Odom just returned coming off injuries and Radmonovic and Mihm. Without Kobe's scoring, the Lakers would still be on a losing streak.

So check the hate. You're witnessing one of the greatest, if not the greatest basketball player to ever grace the planet.

He's not as bad as he used to be. I think he is trying to fit into the triangle a bit more. It was awful the last couple of years. You watch their offense and he would get the ball and the other 4 players just stopped running the offense and watched Kobe. They he would go 1 on 4 and puke it up there. He would score 30 points, but shoot 35 times and the Lakers would lose by 8. I think he is trying to get other players involved. Right now, they are pretty banged up and have some very young players.

As much as I am a number person, stats don't really tell the whole story. Watch a couple Lakers game and you'll see why Kobe is such a big ball hog. He'll be doubled or tripled teamed with 15 seconds on the shot clock, enough time to pass the ball around to find a good shot, and he'll still shoot it. He passes the ball, yes, but he doesn't share the ball. When he wants to shoot, he totally ignores his teammates and just plays his little one on one (or 2, sometimes) game. When it comes down to 2 seconds left in the game and the Lakers are down by 1 point and Kobe is double teamed, do you really think he'd ever pass it to the open man, or a teammate who is only guarded by one person? The answer is no, not only is he a ball hog, he's also a glory hog.

yes, Kobe's the biggest ball hog, why? because he's too good, unstoppable force, the greatest player in the league right now, back then MJ was the biggest ball hog, for the same reason...

i wouldn't say so because he produces positive things for his team when he does touch the ball all the time, its players like Stephon Marbury who only hurt the team when they ball hog.
