Newtons 3rd law.It states that for every action there is an equal but oppsite force to that action

Therefore, when there is a sudden stop/brake/crash, there will be a backward movement of the human's head relative to the car's motion. This exerts a force on the seat's headrest which in turn exerts a force on the head(3rd law). However, with the headrest, it acts as a safety feature and slows down the time in which the head comes to rest(decelaration) thus it prevents severe neck injury during such circumstances.

I THINK it because Newton's law states that anything in motion will not stop until "something" stops it. A headrest in a car may prove to stop the back of your head meeting the back of your shoulders.
