it depends what plastic and what metal.
If it kitchenware on an electric stove , you should try removing as much as possible with a razor blade . Any left will burn off, but keep window open and have a fan blowing out . The fumes are very toxic.

try the spray that you can get to remove gum from fabric, I heard that would work . It will freeze the plastic and it should come off with a plastic knife or something similar. It should just crumble when it's frozen.

Re-heat the metal. It should come off easily then.
