What is the only continent which is also a country? Why?

Australia, because it's the only complete country on that continental plate (the Indo-Australian tectonic plate.) Papua-New Guinea, Indonesia and New Zealand are also part of this plate, but they are on the joining of other plates as well. Only Australia is entirely on this plate.

Of course, you could also include Antarctica, which is on the Antarctic Plate, but this doesn't really fit the term "country", as it has no governing body or resident population, and no one country owns it.

Australia.........Why?.... it was originally a totally British colony, with one government and everyone speaking one main language, that gained Independence.
