I don't think it is racist, unless you blatently say to their face. Black folks hair is different than white folks hair. I have seen dreds on both races, some nice and some nasty looking. I didn't say anything though. White women are raised different than black women. When you try to make a white women act black, she usually starts looking and talking ridiculous. She may even forget she is white and get too comfortable and say something that can get her hurt. If I see something different or weird that happens in another culture, If appropriate, I'll say something like "Hmm, that's really different" and go about my business. I don't want anyone to be just like me. i won't disrespect you because you are different either. If you practice self control, little ish like that won't bother you.

" Is it racist to expect people of another culture to act according to your own culture? "

No, that isn't racist. If an American goes to Japan, the Japanese will expect him to follow the Japanese culture. As its said, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." And who shapes the American culture? The Brady Bunch? If you think traditional white people are the American culture, then you have a misunderstanding of what American culture is. It's much more diverse than that.

"Is it racist to criticize or judge someone outside of your culture when you are not a part of that culture?"
How are you judging that person? If you are saying that he or she isn't as normal, moral or as good as YOU are just for being in a different culture than you, than that sounds a little racist.

"Is it racist, for instance, for Black men to judge White women by Black standards and values?"
I don't know what you mean exactly. Give an example.

"Is it racist for a White person to tell a Black person that they way they do their hair is awful/nasty? Is it racist to tell someone who has dreads that their hair looks like it is full of excrement?"
If you are saying that the way that a black person does his hair is "awful/nasty" BECAUSE he or she is black, then that is racist. If you're saying that because it is different that what you are used to, then you are not cultured enough; you are naive, ignorant, and just plain disrespectful. If you are saying that for both reasons, then you are a naive, ignorant and disrespectful racist.

"Is it racist to disrespect a person of another culture who is fully respected by members of their own culture?"
What difference does it make whether that person is MLK or a bum? Respect should be shared by all people who deserve it (i.e. non-criminals). If you are disrespecting someone because of their RACE then you are a racist. If you are doing so because it is different than what you're used to, then you are naive and disrespectful.

It's better to at least understand other cultures before completly disrespecting them. Try living in another country (that doesn't speak English) for a year (like Study Abroad). You'll have a whole new outlook on life.

Basically, everyone's a little judgmental when it comes to different cultures. This type of judgment should be done so in a respectful manner for the sake of learning and maturing oneself.

It is racist to judge another culture if you are basing your opinions without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge.

It is not racist for a white female to not like the texture of a black mans hair. To call it nasty is not racist either, although it is rude. To say that white mens hair is better feeling than black mens hair is racist. Commenting on hair that you have felt and formed an opinion about is not racist, but depending on how you word your comments, it could be insulting.

On the last question, I wish you would have given an example, I think it would just depend on the circumstance.

Most races dont have a race speciffic haircut. I see white guys rockin dreads sometimes. So its all relative. Also you cant hate a race just because someone from that race is rude to you...or even a group from that race. Having that respect for bounderies is what makes you a better person. Ill use your example "dreads" If a black guy with dreads has bad smelling hair....its just him or that group "rastafarians". Saying black people as a whole have poor hygine is racist however.

Coming from australia there are a lot of people who live here that are from different countries often ones where there is no freedom and war. However, they usually stick to their fellow countrymen and culture because they do face a lot of racism and criticism from others of different culture, due to this they then judge us and our culture. I think however, they should be welcomed, accepted and respected. Then maybe they will feel the same way about others who live here and their cultures.

I think it all comes down to respect for others and how others think and feel. If you show respect others will show respect. That's just how I think about it. I could be totally naive that this is how things work but I'd like to think that a little thing goes a long way.

Ignorance with underlying racial undertone. For example, the idea that white women and men think they're gorgeous is mostly due to the way in which they are revered in the media. So yes, there is a racist element to it, but it stems mostly out of ignorance...and a superiority complex. And we all know that those with this complex are actually really suffering from an inferiority complex...

...but that's a whole 'nother aspect.

What's really racist- when governments get involved in implementing laws that give special privileges to minorities over the general population. In other words, why should I have to suffer inhumanities and other acts of torture while various cultures can get benefits, grants, and special privileges simply because they fall under a certain category or type of person? Why is it that certain cultures and races can receive compensation for so called past wrongs to their people from decades or centuries ago when people like myself get jerked around through gross acts of terrorism like computer hacking!

Racism is the act of distinguishing between people solely on the basis of race. Perhaps you mean to ask about racial bigotry rather than racism?

The act of judging someone is not inherently racist. There is no shame in judging or being judged.

From a strictly functional viewpoint, it may be a marvelous thought for me to learn some Spanish if I meant to stay in a factor of usa that has a intense Hispanic inhabitants (the unlawful immigration concern aside). That pronounced, i'm very lots detrimental to unlawful immigration and have confidence that anybody who seeks citizenship in our usa, in spite of place of start, has an criminal duty to learn English. it incredibly is one considered necessary concern that my forebears had to do while they got here to usa by Ellis Island interior the immigration wave to usa that lasted from the Eighteen Eighties to the Nineteen 1920s. The English language is the binding element that holds disparate aspects of our subculture at the same time, and to no longer require this of might-be electorate is definitely a recipe for concern. i might additionally assert that to no longer require resident extraterrestrial beings (who're temporarily in this usa) to learn a minimum of passable English is undesirable no longer in basic terms for the close by born yet for the resident alien to boot. and that i firmly reject the thought it incredibly is "racist" for people to no longer learn Spanish, or, for that rely, the different foreign places language, besides the actuality that no longer understanding any language different than English may be inadvisable to those who prefer to have interplay in international corporation.
