I support publicly funded elections. Arizona and several other states now have it and it's working.

Great question.
It shouldn't cost nothing to get elected, that's the problem. When candidates spend millions to appease their friends, make promises and wine and dine big wingers; that means they are NOT the people's candidate, they are a bought candidate which is corrupt at the stem. That's why it's important to listen to these candidates as they tour hitting their big famous rich friends for millions. I wonder what they're promising these rich friends, maybe a look the other way of them not paying their taxes? Maybe a nice word in for contract jobs?
That's why I don't like Hillary. She's spending Millions to get elected. She looks DESPRATE! Where's she getting her money and where is that money going? She takes people for fools then smile in their faces all the time she's trying to take their places she's a BACK STABBER! ……..BACK STABBER!!!!

It doesn't have to be the case that you can only get elected by spending millions. Someone can get elected just on the basis of getting a lot of favorable publicity in the press.
And whether or not a candidate has received millions from "huge corporations" has nothing to do with whether or not they will represent you.
Every Joe Jones out there who is frustrated at what the government is doing thinks to himself or herself "Why won't they pay attention to me and do what I want?" And then they lay the blame at the door of "huge corporations," or any other lobbying organization. For example, I am opposed to the minimum wage law. I don't even want the wage law to exist, much less be raised. So, therefore, I blame the fact that it exists on the power of the labor union lobby and the sheep-like "working people" who heed the beck-and-call of their labor bosses rather than think for themselves. And now that the wage law is being voted on again in Congress, I still blame them!

You hit on one of my pet peeves. Special Interest Groups run America. We need a National Campaign fund (which no one wants to sponsor). It should be illegal to take campaign funds. I hope one day, before it's too late, that this is put into law.
Do you realize that terrorists could actually elect the next President - they would naturally hide their real identity, but it could easily be done. Then the Pres. is beholden to them.

It's a way to keep the little man from ever getting a chance, we are always stuck with choosing the lesser of two evils. And we will never be truly represented under this current system.

Because the election is a popularity contest, and whoever has the best marketing and advertising wins.
Same as with any business.

I'd vote for the guy that gave all of his campaign funds to fight poverty, and just bought one ad letting everyone know that's why you won't see his (or her) name everyday. Unfortunately, most of the American public is too dazzled by shiny objects to follow that logic...
