I've found that the Redwall series by Brian Jaques are really good. The first book, Redwall, is by far so far the best for me, so thats generally what you should start with. The books range from about 400 pages to 500 pages. The books are not written in chronological order, more like in a random one, so it gets confusing. One thing you could do is go on Wickipedia and look up the books, it include's a chronological series order.
Other good books include Anne Frank's Diary, The Series of Unfortunate Events (although the ending was rather disappointing), and the Chronicles of Narnia.
The Lord of the Rings books were a bit slow, but a very enjoyable read.

Classic "The Picture of Dorian Grey" by Oscar Wilde. "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury. Books by Christopher Moore, particularly "Lamb". Or if you'd just like to giggle a few times per page, read "Bring me the head of Prince Charming" by Rodger Zelazny :)
