I am leaving my boyfriend on horrible terms, he's and alcoholic and was cheating, I have no other choice but to go. I have two kids, one will be 3 next month, and the other just turned 1. I have a job, but I wil have trouble supporting my family. I need to know how long it takes to start getting child support after you file for it. Do I need to go to court? I will, but I just need to go now, and am worried about the near future, my kids are all that matter to me, and I just need to be sure that I can have food on the table, and clothes on our backs, I will be getting help from my family, but just want to know who's been thru it and how long it takes to see the $. My EX is not willing to give money up front to help out his children..yes, he is an alcoholic ******...that's why we are leaving, my kids and I deserve better.

If you know his social security number and address it will be easy to do. Go to your local social services office and tell them that you want to sign up. If you don't know his social security number, try giving them his work info if he has a job or any other info that may be helpful for them to contact him. Being it's your first time, you will have to go to court. They will ask him questions like how much money does he make, where does he live, etc. If he doesn't work the judge may ask him why he don't have a job and he has kids to support. Depending on what state, judges can be real strict about this. They may ask you how much you make, just to be asking. They go by this little calculated paper they use and it tells them how much to charge the father with depending on his income. Whether he has income or not, he will have to pay something. Once the judge orders the amount, you may start receiving a check within 2-3 weeks.
If you need more help or info you can contact me anytime.
Good Luck!

It depends on how the support agency in your state works, AND how efficiently they work. As a human resources manager, I get calls from employees and their exes all the time saying that child support payments are not being received. All I can tell them is that employers have a very limited about of time to forward payments to support enforcement or they face huge fines. The hold-up is always at the support enforcement office, unless the person being garnished works for a total fly-by-night company. In the states I've worked in, paper checks mailed to the custodial parent, but I understand that some states are doing direct deposits now. You really need to contact your local support agency to find out how they pay, then you'll need to stay on top of them if payments don't show up or are delayed.

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aNHat
Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.
You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

gosh he turned into an alcoholic fast! You do have to go to court to get a child support order; if you have one already, then it takes a month or so assuming he is sending the money in or it's being taken out of his check

It's best to go to court and get an order for support, cause he won't hand it to you on his own free will. It takes time to go through court, but once the order is made, he has to pay the support. I wish you the best of luck, its tough at first but you will get through it.

I know when we take in county foster kids for the weekend, it takes us about a month to get paid. If that helps at all.

Yes you have to go to court to file for child support, but it's not going to happen overnight. They will give you a date as to when to appear before the judge, the judge will determine how much you will get according to your ex's income. You're ex doesn't HAVE to give any money up front right now, there is no court order demanding he pay support. He only HAS to pay support when there is a court order for it. The fact that he isn't supporting his kids now is a moral issue...Obviously the person you chose to have sex and create children with doesn't have much in the way of values...what does that say about YOUR choices?
