but he came from a city in the northern part of the tigris river
if you have a map at the end of your bible (if you have one) there should be one that has the location

Abraham was in Ur (in Central Iraq now), then went to Harran (now in Souht-eastern Turkey). He continued his journey till he reached Canan in Palestine. Don't forget that he visited Northern Egypt and stayed in Western Saudi Arabia with his son Ismail for a while.

He was originally from Ur, which is in modern day Iraq. He then went to Haran which is either in Northern Syria/Southern Turkey, or also in Ur.
