I have a wooden post fence like this I==I==I==I==I in my front yard.I dont like it much and i want to cut it up and burn it as firewood (outdoors) in my new firepit. My one friend tells me it may be treated wood and the smoke may be harmfull. How can i tell. The fence is very old and is splitting alot. its almost that old grey wooden color.. If it was treated, is it possible it has worn out enough to burn?.. Although i dont think it is, how do i tell

The only part of that fence that would be treated is the posts that go in the ground, not the === part. So just burn the === parts and discard the | | | parts.

You should not burn anything like your fence. Call someone to haul it off. You shouldn't emit that smoke in the air.

You could take a piece of it to the lumber yard and ask them if it is treated or not. They could tell you, no matter how old the wood is. But check with the fire department on burning regulations before you burn it.

the posts would probably been treated with pentatal or creosote creosote is what builds up in your chimney the carbon monoxide of the smoke will not be any more harmful off the post than if it was firewood besides if the fence has turned gray it probably wasn't treated myself i wouldn't worry

well, you gotta find out if it is treated as it is against the law to burn treated wood. if not and there are no laws against outdoor burning , burn it.

IF you leave it in a pile it will rot. TAKE IT TO THE DUMP. THAT will shut the neighbors up.
