84 Olds still has points? I think you need to check your information. that motor should have and HEI ignition in it which does not have points. You can adjust the timing on the motor but not the points. GM stopped using points in 75 and 76.

the 84 didn't have points., that is a trick question. Heck even the 1974 didn't have points. Unless the engine was changed. However, to set points you bring the distributor lobe right under the points arm and set it with a feeler gauge. Then put it back together and start it and then set the dwell with a dwell meter, the meter settings are 28 to 32.
