The term Generation X is from a 1991 novel by Douglas Coupland that said that the generation after the baby boomers didn't have a label or a name and could not be defined in such simplistic terms. Ironically, the name of the novel has been applied to them.

Generation X has been usually been defined as those being born between 1964-1979 or 1965-1980.
