Now his wife has bony mets from her breast cancer and she will no doubt be recieving radiation treatments. What is he thinking? Do you suppose he is trying to get sympatny votes or what? You would think he would want to spend time with his wife and take care of her, not run all over the country in a bid for the presidency.

I can't believe you'd make such a statement as "sympathy votes"!!!!!!! If you have followed the life-changing events which have occurred in their lives, you'd know he did NOT make this decision all on his own. He and Elizabeth are very supportive of each other and I know that's the way they BOTH want it. As he and she both said in Thursday's press conference, they can't just sit back and cower in the corner. I admire their strength and courage and I believe everyone else should also! They've always said this election is not about them, it is about us the citizens and America!

Did you actually watch their press conference in its entirety? They explained that medically speaking this effort won't necessarily hurt her any more than sitting at home feeling sorry for themselves. It is a form of cancer, according to the experts, which can be controlled and even be made better, though not cured. It was a joint decision, and they are to be lauded as a couple for not letting personal difficulties stop them from pursuing a path they believe in.

They are a very close couple. This decision was made after much thought.

No matter what, they are in it together. I have been backing John Edwards since the start. No one can second guess their decision.

My first reaction to the news was similar to yours, but then I thought, maybe it was a joint decision. It's very possible that she does not want him to leave the race because of this. Even if the guy thought this would get him sympathy votes, I would think his advisors would tell him otherwise. So I'm willing to give him the benedit of the doubt for now.

If he is going for sympathy votes now, why didn't he reveal that she had cancer the first time she had it? Even though she developed cancer during the 2004 election, they didn't announce it until the day after.

I'm sure she doesn't want to stand in the way of this opportunity for her husband to run for president.

I absolutely applaud John Edwards for moving forward. His campaign will help give Elizabeth the strength she needs to keep getting healthier. I think when folks stop things get worse. The Edwards will always have a special place in my heart and I will pray for her success.

Elizabeth, we are praying for you and you are our champion.

I'm sure he would not have done it without her full support. He has a good chance although he is facing tough competition in Clinton and Obama. I believe he will run a good campaign though

why? she wants him to, and she will be with him most of time anyway. he said that if he needed to be a caretaker or supporter he would be there immediately. Not that I'm voting for him anyway but come on give him a break.

He is doing what his wife encouraged him to do. She plans to campaign with him as much as possible. She is a strong woman who knows her own mind.
