I have the same problem. I treat my friends like gold but they never seem to be happy with me. I just tell myself that I am a good friend and it doesn't matter what they think. I just know that I do the right thing even if my friends don't.

Maybe you are a better person.
But also, consider why you treat them better than they treat you...
Are you looking for approval? Do you feel unworthy and are trying to win their appreciation?
Do they even know what you want?
People treat you how you teach them to treat you. Learn to say "No" and learn to ask for what you want , "Please don't ask me to lend you anymore money. I can't afford it and it makes me uncomfortable!".
The people that are friends will remain friends, the users will disappear, which is good!

Because you have low self esteem and care what others think about you. So you constantly go around and try to please others while your own feelings get stepped on and you are being taken advantage of.

I know I am/ was the same way. I sucks to treat people 10 times better then you get treated. I know I got sicken tired of trying to please everyone but myself for the fear of them not liking me. But if they don't like you don't waste your time with them.

to be nice is a virtue, but lets not forget "don't let the same dog bite you twice." meaning, dont be so nice that people think that they can step all over you. trust me, i thought by treating my "friends" good (well more than good, actually) that they'd do so in return, unfortunately i thought wrong. i try treating people as i'd like to be treated but remember to treat them with upmost respect if they only respect you. if not, "fck them and feed 'em beans"- my papi (meaning if they don't like you for what you're cookin' them feed them a can a beans.. or something along those lines)
i hope that you understand that it's good to treat others nice but don't let them use you. don't be the fool that gives his eyes to the blind, his tongue to the dumb, his ears to the deaf, and.. your clothes to the naked. because then you'd be blind, deaf, dumb and naked.

first of all, you sound like a decent person. i too feel that i treat people better than they treat me, my parents brought me up that way, and theres nothing wrong with it unless you feel like a human doormat, you can be nice without letting people walk all over you.
