I'm wondering if its illegal to use a little part of a song in a video? I don't own the copyrights.

And I was also wondering how much does it cost to buy the copyrights of a song from The Sounds? Are they really popular? WHERE CAN I GET PERMISSION TO USE THEIR SONG? WHERE? ohhh God.

So , if I get sued how much will I have to pay? And also I used the video in a Short video competition in a Brazilian website and If i win i get a Home Theatre and a DVD and now i'm at the top 5. So , i'm not sure If i want to win anymore. And I used the song "Tony The Beat" from the Sounds , I hope they don't sue me cause I love them.

I think you are entitled to use up to 20-30 seconds of their song even if its copyright. You have to talk to the record company on permission to use their music.

Yes, it is against the law. I believe it is against the law to use any portion of the song as well as the whole song, there is also another provision that prohibits you from just using a small portion of the song. You would need to use the whole thing. The rights to the song are held by BMI, Seasac, or a few other companies. You will not get permission, you will get a big invoice in the mail or a lawsuit. Your choice.

It's called sampling and it is illegal if you do not have rights to do so. If they never find out or decide not to pursue a lawsuit, you are ok. But if they want to, they can sue you for pretty much every penny you make off of it. Just ask Vanilla Ice
